Anyone who knows me realizes that Uncle Monsterface is my favorite band, which is why I often travel from Philly up to points in NYC for shows. Brooklyn, Manhattan, I'll be there. The latest show rocked Otto's Shrunken Head on the Lower East Side last Friday night, and my associate Amanda and I bused it up after work.
The show was hosted by Nerdapalooza (which I missed in Florida this past July, ugh) and Rock'em Sock'em and also featured Devo Spice / Sudden Death and Shael Riley / The Grammar Club. I knew the names from listening to the Radio Free Hipster podcast from Hipster Please, but I'd never seen a performance.
Holy fuck, what a performance! I've been to shows and been completely let down by the band (like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah back in March 2006, what a crapfest) but never have I been so utterly impressed, to the point of almost peeing myself. Not only are all these guys talented musicians, they really know how to work a crowd. It wasn't like being in the audience--we practically became one with the bands, dancing and rocking out, making friends and sharing the experience.
It was the most awesome night of awesome. I'm still waiting for Amanda to post her photos to flickr!
