WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Karaoke Birthday!

Posted about 1 year ago

I am turning 30 this Saturday. Woohoo! The celebration begins on Friday night with a karaoke birthday party of awesome, where some of my friends will totally rock the mic while others look on with a mixture of horror and embarassment.

I will not only rock the mic, I will be sporting a rhinestone tiara while I do so.

The plan involves me singing some Hall & Oates, probably "Kiss on My List" because I enjoy that song so much, even though I think "You Make My Dreams" is my favorite song of all time. I'm also hoping there are some early '80s "soft rock" standards on the playlist, like Barbra Streisand's "Woman in Love" and Olivia Newton John's "Magic" (from Xanadu!), because I will unabashedly belt those out.

I worry about the people showing up who would normally eschew karaoke but will graciously attend, simply because they are my friends and this is my birthday, after all. Will they have fun? Will I be able to persuade them to take the stage? The party is being held at a Japanese restaurant. Perhaps plied with enough sushi and sake they will be more susceptible to suggestion.

Or I could always pull the "but it's my birthday!" with puppy dog eyes.

    Happy birthday!

You'll have a blast. And as far as karaoke-reluctant people are concerned, since I am one myself, I have only one piece of advice for you: alcohol! ;)

Alcohol was a great help to some people picking up the mic... and even admitted that karaoke is addictive!
