WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

so this is christmas?

Posted over 3 years ago
this year, i strangely find myself thirsting for a bit of the ol' christmas spirit. most years, this season is filled with nothing but stress and misgivings, but i have to say i'm thoroughly excited this year. it snowed for the first time i've noticed in NYC just yesterday, just a few flurries, and i've since put up a few small, craptastic yet wonderful christmas decorations in my bedroom. i'm compiling a fresh christmas mix this year too, putting together a disc of my favorites for both myself and my friends for a holiday treat. this one is my absolute favorite, a track that i listen to quite regularly throughout the season, but one i can even enjoy during the dog days of summer. cranes have always been one of my favorite bands of all, and this number sends shivers down my spine every single time. here it is, for those interested:cranes- happy christmas (war is over)otherwise, fellow moggers, what are your all-time favorite christmas tunes? bonus points for those unconventional!

  1. Rena J says Favorites? The Beach Boys - Little St. Nick Darlene Love - All Alone On Christmas (you know, the song from Home Alone 2) The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping And the entirety of Phil Spector's A Christmas Gift For You of course. :) As for unconventional Christmas tunes, I once heard a "Worst Christmas Songs Ever" countdown on the radio (I know, I know, the radio sucks, etc.) that had me laughing out loud. Also, I think the Damned did a song called "Ain't No Sanity Clause."

  2. natty says The red tree is anything but craptastic ;) As for favorite xmas song? That's a tricky one...I do love the bells song (please correct me on the proper name...Ring Christmas Bells?). As for an unconventional one to mention? Not my favorite by any means...but there is always Homo Christmas by Pansey Division! Can't beat a holiday song that mentions Morrisey and also has the lyrics: Licking nipples Licking nuts Putting candy canes Up each other's butts

  3. gympumpkin says I'm the same way, for some reason I'm feeling much more festive this year. Probably my favorite song about Christmas is "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues. I also love listening to the Barenaked Ladies & Sarah McLachlan version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", soley because of the bass. Those are the first two I think of off the top of my head.
