The Black Lips - local and pretty badass.

Sure, they've been around a while (4 albums), and they're from Atlanta and I should have been a fan by now . . . but the truth is, I'm just now discovering the Black Lips. And in my opinion, they're the best rock band to come out of Atlanta, possibly ever.For everyone who doesn't know their sound, i'll try to make comparisons.Their psychedelic garage side: 13th Floor ElevatorsTheir punk side: The StoogesTheir "art" side: Velvet UndergroundTheir pop side: Village-green era KinksAll of that adds up to my new favorite band (tied with The National) Sure, hometown pride plays a part, but they're good, and they don't take themselves too seriously.everyone in nyc who enjoys any or all of the bands listed above, go see the black lips at the bowery this week (tuesday i believe). great new band, favorite venue of all time. wish i could go!
