I like it when artists make their first track a sort of introduction or welcome to the rest of the album. It sort of lays down the law of the rest of the album. I also like tracks like this as they make for excellent openers to a mix CD. Do any of you have faves like this?

How can these be topped? (Especially the first two.)

There's gotta be others Ivy but I really like the first two a lot. Glad you liked them.
Fairportfan I love that song and the album. I first heard it two years ago. My local library had it in stock. Great stuff and totally sets the mood for the album.

Ummm...
"It was twenty years ago today..."?

Yes yes yes... But hey, there's never a time like the present!

A very stylish girl turned me onto Dimitri From Paris some years ago-go. So mightily cool. Hey! What about the "Snakeman Show" intro on Yellow Magic Orchestra's Multiplies disc?

Mike you just reminded me that I need more YMO. Love that track.
Britt that's a good one. That reminds me of something else but I can't think of it...
Soulrocket that is heelarious. I love King of the Hill. I gotta get that one. Thanks.

Intro on Ritual de lo Habitual - Jane's Addiction as well as Geggy Tah's Sacred Cow. Jane's wins out by a mile for me though !!!

Juanes Addicion! Totally forgot about that one. Haven't heard that album in years. Good one Lizzie. I've never heard Geggy Tah I don't think. Sounds familiar though.

I would put Metallica's "Blackened" from ...And Justice For All with it's slow fade guitaryy-ness followed by cannon like power chord drum combo. Still gives me chills, and some of the best sounding drums I've ever heard put to tape.
And of course Axl's howl starting off "Welcome To The Jungle" on Appetite For Destruction goes down in the the rock n' roll pantheon as one of the greatest openers ever...
I'll think of more, I'm sure...

Ya can't beat that album... not with a stick or JT's beat box... Three Days is a favorite of mine (also has an intro... add that one to my list Sam) !!!
Geggy Tah sang the song Whoever You Are was used in Mercedes-Benz commercial...

I'm adding it! Oh yeah I know that Geggy Tah song. They sound like Cornershop to me. JT needs to release a literal box that you can push buttons on that will allow you to play pre-recorded JT beat box sounds. I'd buy that.
CB those are some great ones. Especially "Welcome To The Jungle". I think you could kick anything off with that song. I imagine myself pressing play on a radio prior to getting on a diving board and the song breaks right when I hit the water.
