Vegetables Part 4 (Eggplant Rachel)

Posted over 4 years ago
My wife Rachel had a strange hankering in 2000 for eggplant in every dish. I think it was the en vogue dish ingredient of the time. I was so inspired by her love that I anthropomorphized her as an eggplant. Her name is Eggplant Rachel. She's made a lot of appearances in my pictures. As well as a cast of friends that I've made up for her. Rachel finds it cute and sweet. I'm posting the only comic I've ever done which is also the first appearance of Eggplant Rachel. I am also posting a song that is very important to Japanese Shibuya-Kei crate diggers. It's by Michael Franks and it's totally cheeseball but I like it and I can see how the Japanese could be inspired by it. Eggplants do rule by the way. 7. ivylander says Dig mucho the cartoon (though I too had legibility issues with it at that size). Ditto the Michael Franks. I must say, though, that I was hoping for a recipe. That's probably because of a wedding I went to once on Long Island, in one of those wedding factories - called, I believe, Leonard's of Great Neck - where they can crank out a few dozen couples in a weekend. They have the whole drill down, from moving you swiftly from wedding chapel to reception area to having a band that plays all the bride-cuts-the-cake cliche tunes. One quintessential Leonard's touch is to name a vegetable dish after the bride, which you discover when you read the menu on phony parchment. That was how I came to taste, for the first and last time, Carrots Vickie. I was thinking Eggplant Rachel might be something similar. I'm not disappointed, though....

  8. The Serenity Vortex says Damn! You are by far the top poster on MOG fistula. Seriously. Sheer entertainment and stuff that I can relate too. Believe it or not, I too once did a cartoon, the only one ever, and I still have it. It ain't great but had to share after your brilliant one. So here it is.....

  13. fistula spume says No I'm not really doing anything like that. I would love to. I had a big show here in my town in '05 but I'm sort of working on another body of work right now and I'm hoping to maybe show in some bigger cities when I get it all together. Gotta produce some more works though. Maybe in '08 or later.
