Meboli - (with Vlada Tomova)

I really feel like I missed the boat on this one. This album came out in 2005 and they have a new one that came out yesterday. Balkan Beat Box has gotten a ton of press with many large publications. I'm at a loss as to how I missed this. Balkan Beat Box was formed in Brooklyn by Israeli born founders Ori Kaplan (Gogol Bordello) and Tamir Muskat (Firewater, Big Lazy). The group has a revolving set of musicians from all over the world from places such as Turkey, Israel, Spain, and Morocco. They describe their sound as "Mediterranean dancehall". They incorporate clarinets, brass instruments, turntables, keyboards, guitars and a whole lot of energy. To me they have a sound for the most part that sounds like a mix of dancehall and klezmer. It's fun. I got to catch up and get their next album "Nu Med". It's supposed to be even more fun than this album. Check it out if you haven't yet. This music is crazy fun.
