Earlies

Pretty sweet album. Or, the album is pretty and sweet. They sound like Mercury Rev. They remind me of the Beach Boys. The trippy side not the surfin' side. They're a bit like tribal lullabies. It's a quiet album. It does get pretty dramatic but it's not too loud. The drama aspects slightly remind me of when Grandaddy gets emotional. It's a pretty album. I don't know if I'll be listening to it all the time though. It's a slow album and I usually have to be in a certain mood to listen to this kind of music. Probably when doing artwork. So that's all I'm going to say about this album. It's pretty, it lulls, it's trippish, and the songs are really solid.

  3. eshep says ah yeah, this is great stuff. i do a yearly best of review each year on happyrobot.com, and this made my list last year. a great record that got literally no attention. i find it so strange that bands such as the earlies don't get a lot of noteriety. i'm convinced that people like music that has fewer notes, like frank zappa said. but yeah, nice description. i always said that they sounded like a cross between brian wilson and mercury rev.

  4. LambCurry666 says I really liked this album too (and it made my year-end best of list as well). It is a great winding down record. I find it to be an accessible, balancing yin to all of the typical challenging indie yang (e.g., Danielson, Scott Walker).

  5. levek says The Earlies is half-British half American. They even composed music transatlantically (via Internet). They admit to CUI (composing under the influence). When playing live the original band of four can be 11 musicians strong. I like this particular album "These Were the Earlies" and my favorite track is "One of Us Is Dead".
