KXUA 88.3

Posted almost 5 years ago
"KXUA 88.3":http://www.kxua.com/ is my local college radio station. It started in 1999. There's a history on "wikipedia":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KXUA. I like my station and I don't. There's some really great DJ's on the station but for the most part there's a lot of dredge on the air. It seems like lately what you might hear for the most part is really really slow metal (like a guitar strum with reverb and a minute later maybe another strum and then a snare drum might hit) or avant garde classical. There are some great shows that feature african music, the latest in techno, world music, and Saturdays has a metal show. My favorite is "Interzone Radio":http://comp.uark.edu/

  1. scotfree says Smart and funny, I like it (and old-timey sound in general). Our family's favorite movie is "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" - that song would fit right into the soundtrack. Thanks!

  2. fistula spume says No problem. I like this song a lot. Never heard of the group before but they were apparently part of the folk revival of the 60's. The seem to have a rather lush history of releases. Kind of reminds me of Incredible String Band but with an American Folk focus.

  3. fistula spume says Wow. WORT sounds dreamy. We used to have a spectacular Reggae show but the school found out that the student was using his show as a front for an old non-student hippy guy to showcase his amazing collection. I have lots of peeps who have done the pirate gig in bigger cities who say I should look into it but I don't think I would get the same satisfaction. Unfortunately Christian organizations have bought up all the airwaves and it's next to impossible for start ups that aren't affiliated with Clear Channel to get a station. Our college station had to win a lawsuit to get its position on the dial. I really don't want to go the A.M. route. I loved the station in Boulder when I lived in the vicinity but it was on A.M.. I think they tried to hype it up as a lo-fi revolution but that only sounds good with something like The Clientele and not something like The Pinker Tones. Oh well. Maybe something will come up. Maybe I should start a petition to get others involved in a new station in my hometown. That's something to ponder. I'll check WORT out. Thanks missjunk!
