Music From Living On The Earth was released in 2000 by Alicia Bay Laurel. She's well known for her 1971 best sellfing book titled Living on the Earth. The songs on this album were songs she had written back in the 60's and early 70's but were recorrded in 2000. There's practically a books worth of material on the All Music Guide about Alicia. She's had a very diverse musical life. It seems strange that she didn't record her songs until years later. For whatever reason its a very great album. It's calming and tranquil. Her finger picking is mesmerizing as well as her voice. AMG says that she learned open-tuned guitar from John Fahey in 1964 (he was married to her cousin Jan Lebow at the time). Isn't that a fun tidbit? I think that's about all I will say. It's a great album. She has another album of Hawaiian slack-key pieces titled Living in Hawaii Style that I just might get. A very interesting musician and a very welcome part of my planet now.

nice album art. very "Be Here Now" style. i jumped ahead and listened to Vai Raga first and i'm super digging it. ethereal, ancient and trippy....
agreed, her finger picking and her voice do it for me. i love how the songs are out of time. would be delighted to hear those Hawaiian slack-key pieces. definitely get it ... and share. (;
mollifire - tis a grand song indeed.
poe - I would like to hear those as well. It is strangely out of time. Not something you would expect to hear from 2000. It's like the album time traveled.
Wow. Traveling back in time, post-wise, so I just got here, But she seems to be a time-traveler herself, if the years that passed between her writing and recording are to be believed. And such a bracing, unlikely talent. I'm not one for gurus, but I like the innocent delights herein - which remind me in a good way of Pete Townshend's paens to Meher Baba and his teachings.
