Eat My Heart Out

Artist:

I've always wanted to get a Kevin Blechdom CD but for some reason I never did. Recently I decided to correct that oversight and I got her last album, Eat My Heart Out. It came out in 2005 on Chicks On Speed Records. I really enjoyed this album. I liked it a lot in fact. I can see though how this sort of record may seriously annoy some people's ears and sense of safety. The album is pretty convoluted and the flow is a bit chaotic. Kevin herself comes across as a bit demented, a little deranged, emotionally confused, facetious, and possibly on drugs. All reasons and more to love this album. I feel like I've developed a tiny crush on this amazing songstress/musician since I got the album last month. I want to get her earlier work as well as her work as a part of the duo Blectum From Blechdom. I find something very intriguing about this album. I can't put my brain cells on it. Some of the songs sound pretty simple and others sound very nicely produced. There's no real cohesion in the overall theme (that I can tell) except that she has opened her heart to us with this record. Her big, bleeding, screaming, angry, hurt, tender, delicate, and delicious heart. Not all of the songs are really that awesome but I think when put together as a whole on the album it works. She really got me and I'll definitely be seeking out more. She's pretty cool. My kind of weird.

totally your kind of weird sam, i love her too! invisible rock one of my fave songs from her :)
I love that song too. I think I like the one up top the most because I can feel her anger and pain. Plus I like weird guitar sound when the chorus comes in. Invisible Rock has some really clever lyrics. I want to hear some of her Barnwave stuff when I get home. I don't think there's an album but it looks like they got a MySpace and some YouTube videos.
"possibly on drugs"...
Possibly. But, aren't we all? This is new to me, but I don't find it all that crazy. Just some great songs, albeit a rather oblique pop style. I liked it loads Sam!!
wow, loved it from the opening music. Not sure what this reminds me of, I know it is not Mr. Oizo, but I have just added it to my list of need to find
Wtf? I hated that first song & couldn't listen to much of it, but then fell in love w/Love You From The Heart(hilarious!) then was just so so about the last one but it grew on me as I listened to it(it reminds me of The Fiery Furnaces). This is one multiple personality chica, geezus!
Come on *Kev*, you know this reminds you of Mr. Oizo, you know it does! hehe
Scott - Aren't we all indeed!
Rawk - I won't hold Oizo against you. Glad you liked the tunes.
August - To each his own. You might not like the whole album. My wife said that you had to listen to this under the right context. I think that might be never for a lot of people.
i think it might grow on me if I listened to the whole album. For an artist to be that diverse w/in an album really shows me their true talent. And even if I don't initially like one song, I may end up liking it if I like the others.
I also find that it depends on the mood I'm in too. Listening to that first song again today, I'm liking it much better now(but not as much as the others).
Don't fret August. I know your a pretty open minded guy. Mood sometimes is a big factor. I had a new album recently that I thought was awesome and for some reason a few days later I thought it was crap. Now I like it again.
Oh trust me, I'm not fretting over it one bit. Just letting you know my process & that I'm diggin' it more the 2nd time around!
