This is my new favorite album. I love White Shoes & The Couples Company. All I had to read was that they were an Indonesian Indypop jazz/twee/funk group from Jakarta and I was intrigued. The music is so good. I would've figured I would've heard them before last month. Rolling Stone put them in their top 25 bands on MySpace. They were also in the top 25 most crushworthy bands of 2006 according to AllMusic Guide. They're so much fun. Makes me instantly think of Saint Etienne, a slew of Swedish bands, maybe a little P5, and Burt Bacharach. Their Wiki entry has a ton of great info on the band. They're influenced by Indonesian soundtracks from the 70's, 30's jazz and 60's harmony pop. This album originally came out in 2005 on Aksara Records and was released stateside last year by Minty Fresh. Most of the songs are sung in their native tongue of Bahasa. A few are in English and those sound great too. It's really just a top notch album. The band consists of two couples and two other members. I keep reading that they're the best indy band in Indonesia. I've never heard of any so I wonder if it's true. They sound great. Surely in Jakarta (11th largest city in the world) there's another indy band. I'll let them have it though til another group from that neck of the woods shows me otherwise. Check them out. It's good stuff.

They do look fun don't they. Makes me want to visit Indonesia. That and the zillion other reasons. Totally cursh worthy.
I love the guy skipping in the vid, haha. They look like they had fun doing the vid too. This is seriously infectious twee pop. Nothing too original but they do it very well, making the genre their own & so adorable to boot!
The vid is pretty sweet. I think it's a little hard at this point to make the genre original. I think the key is to make it as fun and interesting as possible. I thought they brought it. The album is really great. What sold me was this review on emusic:-

They're always pumping it through the air at clothing stores and other places. I'll hear something I like but I don't know what it is and I set out on a mission and find it. I like the hunt and the kill is when I find the song. That usually leads to another band and then another album and so on and so forth.
