I have really been enjoying this new album by Miami Ice. From what I can tell they released it last year in Japan and this year in the states. Why a band from Chicago would do that I don't know. Maybe they're trying really hard to be arty and cool. The album is pretty experimental. Reminds me of an upbeat Panda Bear. The band is made up of several guys using several aliases. Kind of like Black Moth Super Rainbow. The main members are Griffin Rodriguez (Bablicon) and Christopher Powell (Man Man, Need New Body). I've been wanting something a bit weird lately and this album delivers. Actually when I first played it I didn't like it but the more I listen the more I really dig it. Check it out if your looking for something new and different. Pitchfork gave it a 6.8 but I'd rate it up a couple more points. It's a pretty refreshing album.

The first track gives me the impression that they're trying too hard. Second one less so. Third one gives me the trying-too-hard impression, too.
Colour me an undecided listener that needs more listens :)
Cool band name and album artwork tho!
I kind of got that impression at first too. It wasn't until I gave the album about 3 or 4 listens that I really got into it. Now I can't stop playing it. The cover art is what really drew me in. That and I needed something different to listen to.
Just to be clear on this, you don't need to be an alienated young person to enjoy these tracks. A head full of artificial happiness isn't necessary, either, though it would hardly hurt...
To tell you the truth I don't understand what's strange or weird or whatever anymore. I think I'm past my saturation point. A head full of that isn't necessary either for sure but it does help. I enjoy lavish unnecessary music when the time calls for it. I just found out today that my step-father is in ICU to calm down his diabetes so he can have a sextuple bypass tomorrow. Good times.
i liked this album too there are lots of cool songs, but got hooked on the song "crittin' down to baba's" especially don't know why, but it makes me feel kind of happy
There are a lot of cool songs. "Crittin' Down to Baba's" really stuck out for me too the first time I played it. I didn't like the title song at first but the more I listened the more it grew on me. I'm curious to hear their two previous albums. I thought this album was nice to hear considering all of the sound alike schlock that I keep hearing lately.
