The Best of Barbara Brockhaus is a concept dirty electro album by Angie Reed. It was released in 2001 on Chicks on Speed Records. Angie was a bassist and vocalist for German band Stereo Total. She left the band to work on her solo work in 2000. The album was produced by Patric Catani (EC8OR) and Bomb20. They're also known for their work as The Puppetmastaz.
Barbara Brockhaus is an imaginary alter ego of Angie's. She's a single, bored secretary that imagines a life filled with hot gigolos and cosmos. She doesn't seem to be a good secretary and her imagination is probably fueled by women's magazines that are at her desk. She seems to like and hate her boss. She wants to dominate him. Babs is a very saucy and sassy girl with a very dirty mind. On the stage show Angie wears her Barbara outfit and plays slide projections of her art and pictures. It's apparently quite the steamy show from what I've read online.
Overall I really liked this album. It's a little short but not too bad. It's chock full of attitude and moxie. The complete title of it is Angie Reed Presents The Best of Barbara Brockhaus with music for the lazy and not the bureaucrazy. I forgot to mention that Chilly Gonzalez also participates on the track "Jungle Gigolo". Angie says that Babs is a "spicy pepper". I can agree. She had another album in 2005 called XYZ Frequency. Exactly who came to mind when I listened. Very smart stuff underneath the surface.
Some of the other tracks are a lot dirtier than the ones I posted I just realized. It does venture into the Peaches territory for sure.
Sam, I know a little about Stereo Total, I like them and I like this. The fake attitude is pretty cool, and that accent is whacky-wild. Like a Bronx-hillbilly on permanent vacation in Prague. I need a shower after this electo-dirt bath
Her accent is crazy. She has a pretty dynamic voice. Her talent agency page says that she's done a lot of voice work for tv and film. She makes me think of a cartoon character. A not for kids cartoon.
