Summer

I'm done with it! No more Summer! It isn't even August yet and I'm ready to throw the towel in. It's probably because it got up to 102 degrees today and it's wicked humid. That or the fact that the air conditioners broke down yesterday at 2:00 at work and didn't work at all today. They did send us home at 4:30 but it was little consolation. I was a little sweaty and kind of hallucinating at 10:30 today. I think the heat is messing with my head. I'm not feeling very inspired to draw (I'm sure that will pop back), and I'm not feeling a lot of music lately. Some reason I got a lot of minimal/glitch/math rock/jazz kind of music and I like that but I also enjoy variety (no Japanese music jokes please). What's up with Summer?! I checked my iTunes and I've got around a couple hundred songs about Summer. That's hella more than any of the other seasons. I have to say about 30 of those are "Summertime" covers and probably about 15 are "Summertime Blues" covers. I'm done ranting. I felt like posting tonight because the heat is bugging me and I wanted to post some Summer songs. I hope they give you all sunburn! ;p

I too am being f*cked with by this weather. I eagerly await the shorter days and the crisp cool blue skies of autumn. Just thinking about needing a jacket is making me wistful.
Autumn can't come soon enough. I enjoy wearing shorts though. I really just can't wait for the times when the temp hovers around 70 degrees again. It wasn't this harsh last year for sure.
that is one hell of a beached whale!
Hi fistula spume,
I recommend a new artist today, Kei Kohara. He is an artist who only releases albums in the summer all with a summer theme and usually plays concerts on the beach. In other words he epitomizes summer!

COme down to South Florida, we'll give you a summer there's no break from, along with 85 degree pool and ocean water. It never ends, it never ends...
I don't want it Contra. I enjoy my 4 seasons. Well actually I only enjoy two of those 4. I have enjoyed Florida from my travels there but I'm not sure if I could handle heat all the time. I could go for a hot pool right now. I want to go swimming but local news is scaring everyone saying theres ecoli and salmonella in our lakes and streams. Probably what I really need is to just go on vacation.
I don't want it either. Gimme the woods, seasons, snow! I'm all for it. Trees with leaves would be nice. Yeah the oceans beautiful, blah, blah, I'll take a fresh water lake anyday though.
That is one thing I like about Fayetteville. It's very dense with vegetation growing crazy and lots of hills, streams, caves, bugs, and animals. Also with all 4 seasons.
Sounds nice, minus the heat you speak of. I want to be in Maine right about now.
Yeah, Maine was always my favorite spot in the month of July. Nothing like 55 degree watter and a cool breeze down east.
Thanks for the tunes Sam.
spent my summers there growing up. Now I'm a two day drive with 2 kids 2 and under and huge gas prices. Needless to say my plans for a vay cay are sunk. Man, what I'd give to be up there ALL summer.
Oh I know. I used to rent a room and teach sailing on North Haven in Penobscot Bay. But I have not even been up there in 5 years.
I know the area well. Our camp is around Blue Hill/Ellsworth area. sigh...
I used to listen to the public radio from up there. ditto the sigh...
My mom is sailing up off the coast right now.... wish I could be up there too. My stepdad's boat is docked in winterport, just down from Bangor.... so I'm a little familiar with the area too. Don't get to go up there much anymore.
Sam.... no, please don't call for an end to summer yet. It's all we've got up here in coastal washington. Fayetteville does sound pretty cool. I miss four definite seasons.
A boat - the goal of my life! I agree that I am not ready for summer to end, despite the heat down here.
I'm more of a kayak kind of person.... preferably one I have built myself.... all in time.
yeah, i hear you nick
Dzend - Winterport is where my brother lives. Maybe there can be a Maine mini mog meet some summer between you Oat and me or cruise Blue Hill Bay. We'll kayak on the lake we live on. Damn, as if I wasn't bumming before, now I'm really feeling the pull. Maybe I'll scale us down to 1 car and pay for the trip with that money...there's gotta be a way...
I'm all for that... you never know, I may just end up in Maine.
You know CBW .. the kids will grow up, I'm in no hurry there... the problem though... gas... and everything else, I don't see costs coming down anytime soon.
Makes it hard to travel like you used to
Oh, I don't think it will ever be under $4 a gallon (well $3.50 at the least) again. I don't ever see it lowering. I had the trip planned on account of the prices - unfortunately my side work dried up, so did the rebate check. But mainly, the kids would probably not be able to stand 4 days total of driving. We usually frive at night for most things, but there's no way we could do it 2 nights in a row.
I'd rather be in Maine or Washington. Anywhere really. Even if my neighbors and I could just switch houses for a week that would be alright. The gas prices have just made it ridiculous to travel anywhere and unfortunately my wages haven't reflected the growing prices of everything. Conta it probably would be hard for a long drive like that with little kids. And flight prices are way high now. I scaled down to one car 6 years ago and everyonce in a while I feel like buying another one but thinking of the costs is outrageous. I'd love to get a scooter as the scooter population has exploded but my wife is against it.
I would miss my truck dearly. It's been so useful, but I really don't use it like I should. Unfortunately there isn't great trans here, so unless I get a job near the train, I don't know what to do.
Has anyones wages refleted the new gas prices? My job wants to move 40 miles from here - they'd have to pay me $200 more a week just to cover gas, which they wont. I don't know what's gonna happen, or how much longer I'll be living here.
Dude that blows. I thought about getting a truck. I don't know what I would do with it but if I get a vehicle I might go that way. My wife has an Element and I absolutely love it. I think if your in the oil industry you might've gotten a bump on wages. That would suck if your job moves away like that. Hopefully the job market is in decent shape in your area. It's pretty lousy here. Unless your an academic. There is a bus in my town but it's really limited and centered around the University and not very convenient for non-students. I'd love some form of public transportation. They talk about it all the time but they never do anything about it. One small town needs to do it right so all the others can copy it.
Nope. I have a degree and can't find anyhting to earn more than $15 an hour ($25 is the low end for my field). "Hello Sallie Mae? About that money...uh..fat chance!"
Portland Oregon seems to be on the ball about transit...
The Northwest economy seems to be doing ok at the moment.. at least compared to other places ... who knows how it will all play out. Portland is a great city... if I had to move to a city that would be top on the list.
I stayed in Portland in my early 20's for about 3 weeks. Loved it. I was aparently there when it was the 3 weeks that doesn't rain. It was so much fun. Except for the scary crackheads across the street from the house I was at. I think the police were there 3 times a week. Besides that their farmers market is incredible, china town is cool, tons of hostels, public transportation, and I saw They Might Be Giants there. Oh and a cool art and music scene. Oh and more micro breweries per capita than anywhere else. I'm down with all of that.
Alright, I'm sold. It's funny, my experience of Seatle was very similar. Early spring, beautiful weather. Everyone was like "it's never like this, you guys are lucky..."
Florida's for the (snow)birds.
The grass is always greener on the other side of the country. Oh and Portland has Powells Book Store which is the single greatest book store in the country. Way better than the Tattered Cover in Denver. I could write a whole series of posts on how cool that book store is. Portland does have a high suicide rate though. That wouldn't work well with my wife as she's affected by gloomy weather.
I love powells, I can't drive through Portland without stopping there. always dropping close to a 100 dollars each time.....
If weather is an issue then you definitely don't want to be there in the winter.
I love a good bookstore. I'm glad I'm not near it though, I can spend wawy too much at places like that. Gloomy weather? The Northeast can be pretty gloomy, but that's what makes spring so great.
Oh powells isn't just any book store, it's four stories and takes up an entire city block.... yeah it's a good thing I don't live near either (relatively near anyways).
With parking underneath and the really great cafe-eteria that you can read all the books you want in without buying. You can get new hardcovers already discounted and the comic section is nuts. I bet the winter is pretty heavy there. I enjoy wintery weather. It doesn't snow as much where I am as I would like. But holy cow a violent tiny t-storm just decended on me. I just went outside an played in the rain. I love moments like this.
LOL. i am no fan of summer, to begin with - i get it all year round but how i wish i lived on an air conditioned planet - but i don't think i'm as angry as you are. for some reason though i hear a hell lot of the song Summerbreeze all the time and want it to stop.
