Miniflex is Yugo Katayama (aka Yugostar and Yugo*). He’s also married to Yukari Takasaki (aka Yukari Fresh). He also helps Yukari make the music for her albums. They were known as a band called Snapshot which had a mini album in 1996 called Icerink. Yugo has also worked with other artists on the Escalator Records label such as Losfeld, Neil & Iraiza, and Cubismo Grafico. This solo album (of sorts) came out in 2001. As much as I love all of his collaborations I found this album to be fairly ho hum. At best it’s like a collection of Yukari Fresh instrumentals only not as quirky. Yukari does sing though on a couple of the songs. The big thing here, as with a lot of Escalator artists, is orchestrating loops into songs. Sometimes it works (see Land of the Loops, The Busy Signals, Solex), and sometimes it’s formulaic and repetitive. I wouldn’t say this album is entirely bad but it’s not really great either. It’s 50/50. There are a few tracks that I did like so I thought I would post them. Enjoy.

For some reason I'm not able to play the red button song. This isn't the first post this has happened on either. I can play the comments songs though. Love both of them, very bright & sunny choons. Of course I'd love anything associated w/Yukari!

Happens quite often apparently. I'm not having problems but I feel for people. The first song has Yugo singing on a vocoder with Yukari singing backup. It's pretty cool.

Scott it was weird how organically it all came together when I was making that picture yesterday. I love it too. My wife kept singing The Fistula Bunch and how all the personalities in my head came together to form myself.
