Took a trip to my library on Sunday and picked up some albums to listen to. I got:
Audion - Suckfish
Cassius - 15 Again
Clientele - God save the Clientele
Deerhunter - Cryptograms
Editors - The Back Room
I've only listened to the Audion album to completetion so far. It's a really great album. I skimmed through the Deerhunter and liked what I heard. Not so sure about that Cassius album yet. I've never heard this Editors album so I grabbed it. Clientele is just plain awesome. I only made it through the first row of the cd section to the letter "E" and was outta there. I passed up a lot I wanted to hear too but I was trying to diversify. I love my library.

genius idea. i've got to get to my local library! that's a goodie grab bag.
I don't know how they pick em but there's someone there that has really great taste. Used to you could check out up to 9 CD's but some white trash people organized a scam where they were stealing them and selling them and ruined it for everyone.
blegh someone's always gotta ruin it. the white trash are ones to watch!
I really need to import that library-albums concept to Greece.
After I'm done telling you how touched I am that you posted Editors. Hope you enjoy their album :)
Editors at the library? Makes sense, doesn't it? (Whatta song that is, fist! Wouldn't mind a quick trip to Munich...)
I LIKE that Editors song & I've not been much of a fan of them. I've oft spoken of my love of my library due to it's carrying so many wonderful selections. And oh yes, you & I are fellow Librarians(Librans) so we have that in common too!
you'll like that editors album. the whole album's like this whole experience. one of those bands where you can listen to just a few songs here and there, but when you listen to the whole album front to back it just creates this whole soundscape that effects you ages after it ends.
I put my vote in for Audion....
Yeah, Good Libraries Kick Ass.
I first heard Radiohead's OK Computer when I checked it out of my local library. Libraries are great for expanding your tastes.
Glad to see you are finding goodies as well. Nothing better than hitting up the stacks and going home with free music.

We have a pretty decent music collection in our system, and it looks like you do too!
you know some 20 year old ex-high school geek is working in the audio buying dept. The older librarians probably said "I don't know what people listen to, you're young why don't you make some picks." And wha-lah! they've got an awesome music selection going on. One day we'll rule the world!
i wish my library was that good...it does have cool world and jazz, but nothing really recent.
Rawk, Sam. It makes you feel civic when the public library does it good,right?
There are some benefits to living in NYC..one is "The New York Library for The Performing Arts":http://www.nypl.org/research/lpa/lpa.html . A mongo library @ Lincoln Center. If you are in town, it is actually a fun place to visit, and is the ultimate reason to get an NYC 'brary card.

Rawk - it is. My only problem is remembering to bring them back. I can be bad that way.
Librarianguish - Libraries rule! We've got a pretty wonderful selection. It's always growing.
Dach - It's pretty impossible to get a job there. I always wonder who puts it together. I assumed it was an older person because when they first started carrying music I checked out a lot of Mission of Burma, Robyn Hitchcock, Jonathan Richman, and Television.
ardy - I hope that turns around for you someday. It's really an amazing service.
Cody - I love visiting libraries. I absolutely loved the library in Denver when I lived there. They had a fantastic movie section. The cd section was a little lacking though. I bet the NYC one is pretty great. I've got quite a few cards in my wallet that I can't seem to seperate from.
On this note, iTunes U has a bunch of famous libraried contents online, for download, for free. Amazing stuff!

I saw that iTunes U but I still haven't gone through it. I need more smarts. Just ask my wife! (insert rimshot sfx) Hey didn't the Sumerians have libraries?
Probably, I just thought all of our best ideas were borrowed from the greek's.
Good libraries do kick ass. Sadly New Orleans has neglected its library system much like other areas of public expenditure. Cincinnati's library music section blew NOLA's out of the water. But then again I am sure there is some great local stuff to find.
I'd be interested to know you're take on the Cassius album. I'm not sure. There was a time when I was skint (broke) about 15 years ago when the only music I ever got my hands on was from the library. My local branch would let me borrow 10 CD's every 2 weeks. I used to rush home and copy them all on to cassette. I don't know what I'd have done without the library to maintain my musical edumacation in those dark days.
Oatmeal - I bet you could find a huge catalog of early zydeco in their collection. Looks like both cities have pretty awesome aquariums. Something my town definitely doesn't have.
Ben - I flipped through the tracks really quick yesterday. Doesn't sound quite like the French house group I remember. I need to devote more time to it though to see if I like it. I get to keep mine for about a week. That's not quite long enough but it will do.

Hey, I borrowed that Editors album from my library too! The last album I borrowed was by Killswitch Engage :)
katyharrison I'll check them out and let you know what I think. I've never heard of your label but I did buy the Trachentberg Family Slideshow Players album.
darmuzz I have no idea who that band is but I'll check it out. I'm a junkie for dropped references.
