RE/Search: Incredibly Strange Music Vol. 2

Posted over 3 years ago
I wanted to follow up my "last post":http://mog.com/fistula_spume/blog_post/166502 with some songs from the second Incredibly Strange Music compilation. I think it’s the by far the better of the two. The first track I’ve posted was from record on how to speak hip. It’s been sampled by a ton of electronic musicians such as Wagon Christ, DJ Food, and Dimitri From Paris. I hear it all the time. Some really great Ken Nordine tracks and a cool Hot Butter song that isn’t Popcorn. There’s also a totally rockin’ sitar version of the song “The Letter”. That wacky gospel puppet Marcy has a delightfully demented song called “Join The Gospel Express”. There’s a lounge song by Les Baxter called “Terror” that starts out like a sweet “moving strings” kind of song and then it turns into some kind of a weird nightmarish Disney song.

  4. fistula spume says They're classic. I haven't read their new ones on Pranks but they look really great from the excerpts I've read.

  7. redtunictroll says Ken Nordine's entire Word Jazz output at Dot is available from Hip-O Select (http://tinyurl.com/6yuxb4). "Popcorn" was originally recorded by Gershon Kingsley, who together with Jean-Jacques Perrey, recorded all the early Moog pieces you remember behind 1960s public service announcements. Their output for Vanguard (including the seminal "Barnyard in Orbit") is still in print (http://tinyurl.com/6o7pyl).

  9. fistula spume says redtunictroll glad to see a fellow fan. I actually have most of that. I read once someone is offering Ken Nordine's complete NPR shows. I'd love to have that. I quickly bought "The In Sound From The Way Out" after I got this album back when it came out. It's been down hill from then. I absolutely love all those guys. I really liked Jean-Jacques Perrey's newest work with Luke Vibert. Combines two of my favorite artists! brittanybf glad you enjoyed it.
