Street Horrrsing

Reviews of the 2008 album ??Street Horrrsing?? by the Fuck Buttons are pretty hysterical. By hysterical I mean it seems this album instills laughter and fright in people. It’s been a while since I’ve had an album that unnerved me a little bit. I like the feeling and this album really caught me off guard. It’s filled with layers upon layers of reverberating, delayed, distorted noise. That and there are some lovely sounds, guys screaming, and really creepy tribal drumming. It’s really quite the progressive album and some tracks build and build in really slight increments. There’s only 6 tracks on this album and aside from the track “Ribs Out” most songs are about 7 to 10 minutes long. I’m not sure what possessed me to get this album but I did and I’m hooked. It lulls you into a trance like state that your unsure if your going to start laughing or start crying. Like a touch and go moment where your unsure if this trip is bad or not. I guess this was originally released on their website in ‘05(?) but they just recently were able to have it released. It’s a cool album. I had to chase it with a lot of Lio to wash it out of my brain when I was done. Check em out. If your into droning psychedelic shoegazery noisefests this album is for you.

  2. Bartleby says Listening to "Ribs Out" is like listening to the songs of a man whose head's been stuck inside a nest of hornets while an eerie tribe is chanting the praises of a primeval deity. Scary but utterly hypnotic. "Bright Tomorrow" sounds a bit more subdued but one senses madness is lurking. Freaky and frighteningly trippy too. I've heard a lot about "Fuck Buttons" lately and thought they are just a byword for über-hipster kids but you've convinced of putting "my head between my ears" and listen. I'm hooked too. Thank you very much indeed for this dystopia in high dosage.

  3. fistula spume says It is definitely dystopian. It starts out all pretty but noisy and then just builds into something crazy. Then you get to "Ribs Out" and you wonder how you got there. Then it morphs into the next track and starts it all over again. The album is a repetitious loop that envelops in on itself over and over again. I hadn't heard about these guys until I grabbed their album on emusic. Glad you liked it Bartleby.
