Readymade Digs Disney
Posted almost 4 years ago

I figured I should post this album after my Disney post this morning. Readymade Digs Disney is pretty much a Pizzicato Five album of covers of Disney songs. They're everything you would expect from Konishi Yasuharu. It's wild, crazy, and happy beyond all repair. The Japanese really love Disney. Their treatment to the "Mickey Mouse Club March" is as insanely happy as a song can get. It makes me think of what's going on inside a kids mind while at the MM Club but everything is on fast forward and covered in sugar and meth. There's a pretty slick tech-step version of that one song from Mary Poppins. I'm not going to bother spelling it. The Winnie the Pooh theme is a lovely vocalless breezy outdoor jazz in Paris kind of cover. I like how they mix up the US version with the Japanese version of "It's a Small World". Now you can get it stuck in your head in a whole new way. This album came out in 2003. They have released two more albums like this but they're quite different. The second is a collection of original rare Disney jazz and the third seems to be all rare Disney sunshine pop/rock songs. I'm looking forward to getting those as well. This is pretty fun for a P5 album even though the subject can be hard for some to swallow.
