This is yet another wonderful compilation of tunes from the good folks at Cafe Apres-midi. This time the focus is on Disney tunes. It was released in 2002. It's a great mix of Japanese samba covers, Brazilian covers, jazz covers, and original music from Disney movies. I got really sentimental listening to this album. My family started a video store in 1977 and there were Disney movies aplenty when I was little. We pretty much had everything across the spectrum and I watched all of it religiously over and over again. Even if it was something dumb like Boatniks or Gus. The cover songs are pretty sweet. I could do without the original "Under The Sea" song from The Little Mermaid. The covers of the Beauty and The Beast songs are so good that I don't mind that I hate the originals. I was thoroughly pleased that they included "It's Not Easy" and "Boo Bop Bopbop Bop (I Love You, Too)" from Pete's Dragon. Loved that movie. It also has the original songs "Love" and "Oo-De-Lally" from Robin Hood. I got a little teary eyed over "Love". A special treat is the "Main Street Electrical Parade" theme by Jean Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley. The whole thing really brought me back to my childhood. Great album. If you can find it get it. Why must Cafe Apres-midi albums be so ridiculously hard to find?! If I could I would franchise a coffee shop just so I could get the CD's. I like them that much. You can find a very comprehensive track listing of the album "HERE":http://www.geocities.co.jp/MusicHall/4793/cafeapresmidi_disney.html.

  5. fistula spume says It's a pretty crazy track. I would've like to have heard it at Disneyland. I think that was from when we thought that the future would be electronic compositions of Bach and Beethoven. Like Clockwork Orange or Switched on Bach.

  7. fistula spume says When the movies that began their "cartoons meet broadway musical" came out I watched them over and over and over with my niece and nephew. They were terrified of that big Puma head on Aladdin. I really don't like the sing songy aspect of those cause it's too overboard. It's not fun and playful like the older ones. I did like the newer movies though despite that. My wife fancies herself to be like Alice from the cartoon. You might be on to something there. I'll post those Beauty and the Beast covers on this post tomorrow for ya. Stay tuned!

  8. Augusts1 says I heard this song while watching the parade at Disneyland when my family went to visit when I was kid. I just recall getting really sick of it after the umpty eleven millionth time they repeated it while watching the parade, haha!

  12. Hermes says I liked Gil Goldsteins "Beauty and the Beast" and Cobas version. And the "Mainstreet Electrical Parade" is great. Especially the tuba took me by surprise and made me laugh, though I never was a big fan of Disney movies, I only liked the comic boosks a lot. But I remember a completely different musical style of Cafe Apres-Midi based on your last years posts. I must admit, that I didn't search so far for them. But alone for the "Mainstreet Electrical Parade" I must track this album now :).

  13. fistula spume says "Mainstreet Electrical Parade" is pretty awesome. I love Perrey and Kingsley. I've gotten a whole lot more Cafe Apres Midi recently that I want to post. A lot of Brazilian music, jazz, and some sunshine pop stuff from the 60's. Probably post very soon. There's just so many and they're so hard to find. I think I'm going to modify my muxtape soon to have some of my fave tracks from the bunch. http://fistulaspume.muxtape.com/

  15. fistula spume says It's a Japanese coffee shop in Tokyo that a lot of uber hip Japanese music people would hang out at and discuss rare music and such. Now it's like a chain of coffee shops and they put out these incredible mix cd's. The DJ that compiles them goes to large record companies and scours their back catalogs to put these together. From what I can tell you can only seem to get them in Sweden and Japan. They range from $20-$120 on the net for a hard copy. It's really hard to find these on the webs to download.
