After 8 years of being on my list of artists to check out I finally picked up a cd by "Louis Philippe":http://wc06.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:kpftxqrhldse

  3. Bartleby says Is it the falsetto or the lush string arrangements of his songs? There's something undoubtedly intriguing about this Louis Philippe (incidentally it's also it's the name of the last king of France). I'm impressed with his credentials: Pizzicato Five, Towa Tei and The Clientele. Impressive, very impressive.

  4. fistula spume says He's very interesting. I can't put my finger on it either. His name is actually Philippe Auclair. Per Allmusic they changed it because he needed a persona and as it turned out Louis Philippe is on his family coat of arms. It was his credentials that led me to him. A lot of Japanese artists like P5 and Cornelius hold him in high regard. His bio says that he was also a philosophy student and teacher prior to turning to music. Cool stuff. I have to get his new work but I also want to check out some of his older work from the 90's too. Glad you found it intriguing Bartleby.

  5. fistula spume says I can see that. They are kind of similar in an alternative adult contemporary way. That and the voices are similar. I think Beautiful South is a bit more twee than Louis Philippe, though.
