Sometimes I hate getting worked up over an album when people decry that it's best thing this year. I read around and noticed that people kept saying that about "Neil Landstrumm's":http://www.myspace.com/neillandstrumm _Restaurant of Assassins_. I figured I'd check it out. This is a departure from previous Landstrumm albums. According to Landstrumm the sound is "ravestep". Basically it's dubstep but with a lot of old rave sample sets being used for the sounds. I'm convinced. It's absolutely one of my favorites for the year. It's got the tricky beats and the sub basslines but it also has a fun rave sound that isn't completely retro. Some of the tracks have basslines under basslines that I don't think my puny systems can pick up. It really makes my car rattle and hum. He's polished up these old sounds and created something that is accessible and very fresh. Check it out if you get a chance and listen to the posted tracks. I also wanted to point out that there's a free DJ set you can download on www.scandinarvianyc.com called "NeilLandstrumm_Subs&SteelTour2007.mp3":http://www.scandinavianyc.com/web/music/NeilLandstrumm_Subs&SteelTour2007.mp3. There's also a series of five YouTube videos of a set he did at this years Sai Festival. I'll post one of those. It's all really great techno. If you a fan of dubstep or old skool rave I totally recommend it.

reminds me of raves and techno clubs i haunted for a period of time in the very late 80's/very early 90's. mr. toad's wild ride, alice's house, nectar. i may have to go out and find this album when january comes around.
thanks for posting this.

Glad you guys liked it. Reminds me of a lot of some of the aspects of techno I used to really like without some of the cheese. Some reviewers say its too ravey but I like that. I like Boxcutter and Burial but some dubstep is almost too depressing at times. This music is totally fresh yo.

In the words of the immortal Buddy Holly, "Rave on!" (Sounds like one of my better nights on the underground party circuit over the past decade and a half.)

i am digging this with both shovels!
_burial = urban blight_
_landstrumm = urban light_

Nice expression madrid spacestation spain. I'm going to work that into daily speech. Nice comparison as well. This sounds far removed from the cloudy dark gotham batman on heroin sound of burial. I never get bored with techno but I also listen to a lot that is boring. I get really stoked when I find something like this.

hahaha, that made me laugh. like batman on a slow night, shooting H with Alfred and cruising the streets of Gotham in the batmobile.
"Alfred my friend, you know I care for Gotham so, but whats the point? Sure, I did some kick ass work last night and thats all well and good. Its great, but its just gonna get F'd up by some joker in a couple of days anyway! Why do we keep doing this?"
i will never be able to think of anything besides when I hear burial now

LOL! It's tough on the mean streets when they just keep coming at you day after day. What's the point?. I think that's all I'll hear now. They should hook that guy up for the soundtrack to the new Dark Knight movie.

i downloaded that dj set that was linked in your post and have played it a couple of times now, thanks for making that available

You're welcome mss. I liked it. A bit more dance party than the album but it's a really cool set nonetheless. It sounds like the set that is on the video for the Sai Festival.
