First of all the selling point for me on this album is the band's name. How awesome is Ms. John Soda? The group is a side project for Micha Archer (the Notwist, Tied + Tickled Trio) and Stefanie Böhm (Couch). This is the first ablum by them and came out in 2002 on Morr Music. I really enjoyed this album. They sound a whole lot like Lali Puna. The music is glitch pop but there's also a bit more guitars than your typical glitch album. It's moody and slightly uplifting. I didn't know what to expect when I listened to it. The first track "Technicolor" starts off with a pulsing and pulsating electronic rhythm then drops some glitches and as I was beginning to thing this another glitch album Stefanie's voice drops in halfway and it totally shifts in style. Her voice is very nice. Overall I thought this was a very satisfying album. At times they sound a little like Stereolab. I think if you enjoy Lali Puna you'll like this a lot. I plan on picking up their other two albums after hearing this one. Sometimes side projects don't deliver but they could go solo with this one. It's good stuff.

ngtivspace - You got me wondering. I didn't make that up but I saw on wikipedia that it also gets associated with a type of mashup music. I always associated it with groups like this or Lali Puna. Glad you liked it.

when i hear about glitch, it is usually in some association to electronic stuff like prefuse 73, or telefone tel aviv, autechre.

Yeah. There's a bit of glitch in there. It's more prominent on some of the other tracks. The main guy on this was also in Lali Puna which is heavily rooted in early glitch pop out of Germany. Also a bit like Schneider TM too. There's all sorts though. Artists keep finding newer uses of broken machine sounds every day.

Purty! And it sounds so fresh. Amazing what gets released and simply drifts away without something like MOG or some college radio station to keep it alive.

They've had an EP and a full-length since this LP came out, and both kill. They're right up there with Lali Puna's "Faking the Books," which I love.
