I wanted to get a new Tim "Love" Lee album cause he is a king of smooth. I picked up his last album _Against Nature_. It came out in 2005 on Tummy Touch. All I gotta say is wow. Here's what the album cover says. Electronic tone-scapes commissioned by The Brooklyn Experimental Movement Ensemble featuring members of The New York Aquarian Men's Drum Workshop led by 'Coach' M.P. Messenie.Ok that's gotta be a load o' bull but it so goes with the concept of this strange and wonderful album. From the art on the cover to the arrangements of the analog bleeps this could've came out in the 60's and nobody would've have knew this was released in the future. It's so completely retro. Really reminds me of Perrey and Kingsley or various other way out electronic sounds from that time period. A couple of times I even heard some sounds reminiscent of Herbie Hancock. Just a fantastic album overall. If you get a chance check it out. So not like your typical Tim "Love" Lee but outstanding none the less.

Just like contra, I want those covers!!!!!!! (I mean, album sleeves, ya know). But I like the music, too.... this is SO crazy and playful, like from the early days of synthesizers... When I was a kid, an aunt of mine used to have some electronic records like "Play-Bach" and Tomita's Pictures of an Exhibition. This totally takes me back. Super-fisty, too.

That cover is amazing. It really reminds me of a lot of old jazz record covers. Wow I wish I had an aunt that played electronic music for me. I was subjected to country music by my aunts. This album really transported me to a different place. It's a total trip.

Heheheh... Vorsprung durch Technik!
It's not all gold! That same aunt was a passionate piano player, I was a horrible player, and my father forced me to practice four-hands pieces with her every week. I remember one of them was called "Petersburg Sleigh Ride" or something like that... she played me those records after practice because it was the most "modern" music she had. Then again, country is sooo much worse, especially if of the cheesy greasy kind... yuck!

Your aunts selection sounds like my Granddad's. Your too funny. It was the cheesy greasy kind. And generally played on 8-track. Technology can also be hinderance sometimes.

I, too, covet those covers. Let's hear it for Helvetica!! :-)
This is just bleep-a-licious, Fisty. Thanks for sharing. I'm putting this on my "Things I've Heard and said 'Hey! I've got to remember that song and/or album'" list.

I was cheering the typeface. I don't think there's a band called Helvetica, but there might be. Hope I don't confuse folks. San Serif fonts get the big thumbs up from me, in general.
fistula spume says
Ok you just sent my mind off. I'm down with the typeface. I knew whatcha meant. Hey I see one song by "Helvetica":http://www.discogs.com/release/175324. Did you see the new documentary about it? Supposed to be really cool. I also heard a funny joke today about Courier. I like Verdana as well. Now that I'm thinking of it I like German Bold Italic. :)

tim "love" lee is such a genius. i guess he is not bigger because he cant stick to a particular style... the big change he made from the 1st to the 2nd album and then surprised again with "against nature". he sure doesnt care for sales and does what he feels and he releases a masterpiece everytime.
loving the towa tei tune too, man.
fistula spume says
I know. He has such varied styles from album to album. This came out in '05 so I'm really looking forward to what's next. Seems like I read he had been touring with some pretty big names in the DJ world lately. Good on him. I hope he sticks around and keeps making rekkids.
soulrocket says
glad to hear that. he always had a name as a producer, artist & dj but never on a big scale such as norman cook or coldcut.
i hope he keeps recording too.

SCORE! i am all over Tim 'Love' Lee. of course i had to listen in full to the one that disoriented you, Sam - and yeah. majorly my kind of shite, in general.
i've loved Verdana and Gill Sans. recently i am really liking Myriad. ;D
fistula spume says
Gill Sans is classic. I don't have Myriad I don't think. I'll have to check when I get home. Also a big fan of Lakeshore Drive. Glad you liked the tunes. Yeah that one that disoriented me made me feel vertigo for a moment while I was cleaning house. I like it when a tune catches me off guard.
