William S. Burroughs for Funky Friday

Posted about 4 years ago
Technically this is funky spoken word jazz hip hop but I'm posting it today. Love this album. You got Disposible Heroes of Hiphoprisy providing the music and sampling William S. Burroughs and Charlie Hunter providing sax. This was a big hit with me and my friends. Totally stonery and surreal and sick at times. But the music is so dope. Whatever happened to Disposible Heroes of Hiphoprisy? I only got one album by them and then they disappeared. Anyway. Enjoy your weekend everyone. I got a few parties to go to. Woot!

  5. Augusts1 says Apparently they broke up after this cd & Michael Franti went on to form Spearhead(which I knew but didn't know they broke up after this cd). I looked it up on "*wiki*":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Disposable_Heroes_of_Hiphoprisy (where else? heh). I recall their first cd but didn't get into this w/Burroughs at the time, which I'm diggin' now. Funny how time can change one's mind. I guess I was too into the whole grunge thing to appreciate this. Remember seeing this vid for "TV The Drug Of A Nation": And here's the vid for "A Warning To Young Couples", pretty bizarre & hilarious:

  6. fistula spume says Don't have time to watch the vids now but will later. Thanks for the info August. I read the name Michael Franti on the sleeve but I totally forgot who he was. I thought it was familiar for some reason. He was also in the Beatnigs. I was way into grunge when I heard this as well. This was during my transition period into techno when I heard this. Along with several other like minded albums. Also turning in to a pothead with my friends probably fueled it. Those days seem pretty far back now. Dimitra glad you liked it. Thanks nataja!

  9. Lester Jonze says I have this cd, _Junkie's Christmas_ is by far my favorite track. Yeah, too cool. I love this album lots and lots. I also have _Dead City Radio_ by him. Not quite as good, but still quality, none the less.

  15. ciphermedia says I remember the spoken word version of Words of Advice for Young People, but not with this music. Yeah, shame these guys split - I always liked this album - much more so than Michael Franti's subsequent stuff, which always seemed a bit too worthy!

  16. fistula spume says For sure. I really liked their album Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury. It summed up a lot of what I was feeling at the time about too many things. It reminded me a lot of Consolidated.

  17. brz says Fistula- thanks for posting. that's an excellent album, although i've never actually seen the it. a history teacher gave a copy on tape back in high school, Spare Ass Annie on one side and a collection of oddities like Zappa on the other. i only ever really took to the Burrows side. i can only listen to it in my car - it's the only place i have a tape deck. one of the last times i remember listening to it was a few years ago, driving around with a friend who had never heard it. it was a Sunday night, and we were both still hung over from a Christmas party the night before. Junkie's Christmas really hit home that day. here's another gem from DHH ~SrmoBSPZJBk.mp3~

  18. fistula spume says Hell yeah. That's a good story. I haven't heard this song in years. Really brought some memories back. I had it on Volume 3. Those booklets that came with a cd with a fish on it. I wish I had those again. I usually break out the Junkies Christmas for the holidays. I love how the Nutcracker Suite makes it seem so playful. My bff and I were talking the other day about how it always seems that you can find this album in just about any used cd bin. Doesn't bode well for it but I still love it. Thanks for posting that track brz!
