WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Here's my final Yoshinori Sunahara post. This was his first album and it came out in 1995. This album isn't as polished as his future albums but what I find interesting is how you can start with this one and see a clear progression of Yoshinori blossoming with his talent. His skills get better and you can see him evolve from album to album. That said this is by no means a bad album. There's some pretty good tracks on here. I especially like the first track "MFRFM (Music For Robot For Music)". I want to know what the guy talking is from. Towa Tei used a sample from it on the _Sound Museum_ album. Anyway, this is a nice album filled with lush downtempo tracks with hip-hop beats. If you gotta get all of his albums I don't see why you should leave this one out. He only made four. Make another one for the love of god! Ok that's it. I might someday post some Denki Groove but probably much later. Hope you've enjoyed my overview of what I think is a very talented and overlooked artist from the Shibuya-Kei scene.

  3. Augusts1 says You are over the top there Sam w/posting on each Yoshinori cd. But obsession is a wonderful thing & I can see why you did it since each release is unique. Liking these tracks as well as the others on your previous post about his 2nd cd. Your adoration knows no bounds. Liking 'Silver Ripples' the most, it's pretty damn funky but they're all great.

  4. fistula spume says Thanks August. Glad you enjoyed them. It was a bit of a struggle to post this last one but I completed it. I kind of did the same thing here and there with Yukari Fresh and Towa Tei. Still need to review one more Towa album though. Thanks for reading and listening.

  5. Augusts1 says Yvw. Since I enjoy electronic music I like your posts & you actively seek out more obscure artists which is great. The only artist I've done posts on most of his work is "*David Baerwald*":http://mog.com/music/David_Baerwald of "*David & David*":http://mog.com/music/David_%2526_David back in the late '80s. There's only one cd of his I didn't review since it has been posted on enough. I'd recommend checking him out since he's a brilliant songwriter & wrote the lover's theme "Come What May" for the "Moulin Rouge" OST, which is a gorgeous ballad.

  9. fistula spume says I'm constantly amazed with what I don't know. I'll check out your posts. I might know him though. My brain isn't working this week. I keep putting my foot in my mouth and crossing references. I'm going to forget my name before the day is over.

  12. poebegone says sam, sam, sam. i love these. MFRFM (Music For Robot For Music) is my absolute favorite, with the intro to Silver Ripples a close second. Whirl Pool should be right at home in the Siesta label and is gorgeous in its own right. i am reminded as well of Lovage and early DJ Shadow. Yoshinori Sunahara is quite a find, i shall check out the rest of the series now.

  13. fistula spume says Yeah the MFRFM is my favorite on the album as well. It is reminiscent of DJ Shadow. Especially his heavy usage of hip hop beats with this style of music since his contemporaries usually go the breakbeat/jungle or house beats route. Smooth stuff.
