TAKE OFF YOUR SOCKS LEST THEY BE KNOCKED

Peak Hour

Posted about 1 year ago
Psychic TV's _Peak Hour_ album is one of my all time favorite techno albums. I was recently reunited with it after not being able to hear it since 1995. It came out on Temple Records in 1993 and it's a tribal trance masterpiece. A psychedelic explosion of immense proportions. If you like Orbital, The Orb, Future Sound of London, or any other various trippy tribal techno from the early 90's then find a copy. So glad I got it again that I felt I had to share. I think the optimal time to listen is on the 4th hour of illicit activities but it still sounds great normal.

  4. Augusts1 says I love The Orb & Orbital, so right down my alley! Heard of these guys but hadn't heard anything by them. Thanks for the headsup on 'em. I saw The Orb in concert back in '00 or '01 I think, in San Francisco & it was the trippiest, rave-a-licious, psychotronic, psychedelic experience I've ever had! I danced my ass off, it was such a blast.

  5. fistula spume says Hey what a coincidince. I saw the Orb in '01 or '00 as well. I saw them twice in the same year actually. Once in a small theater and another at a huge stadium multi artist concert. I wouldn't say that this album is necessarily indicative of Psychic TV as they're albums range from dark psychedelic folk to house music to industrial to whatever is going on inside Genesis P. Orridge's head at the time. I think the album is designed to make your head explode by the time you get to "Re-Mind".

  6. Augusts1 says It was the year The Orb toured behind the cd "Cydonia" which was '01(just looked it up, even though I have the cd about 10 ft. from me, haha. Damn I love wiki!). Cool you got to see them twice. Interesting PT doesn't do the same style twice, that's great. Truly a creative mind.

  7. fistula spume says Cydonia! That was it. The mythic people on Mars or something like that. If only I could have seen the Orb during UFOrb. Psychic TV is also a part of a church I think and it's all kind of crazy. It gets bigger the deeper you look when you look into their history.

  8. Augusts1 says A church huh? That's pretty odd. What kind of a church? Like "*The 24 Hour Church Of Elvis*":http://www.24hourchurchofelvis.com/ or "*Rev. Billy & the Church Of Stop Shopping*":http://www.revbilly.com/? Btw, there are many definitions of Cydonia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cydonia

  9. fistula spume says Yeah that's what it was. The face on Mars is in the Cydonia region. There was some crazy stuff that Dr. Alex Patterson wrote about the people that built it and the history of life on Mars. Those are some wacky churches. Thanks for the links. I think Psychic TV's deal was more Discordian or maybe like Church of The Subgenius only more sinister. Maybe it's just Wiccan. Been a while since I read up on that stuff.

  10. Augusts1 says Patterson is a crazy ass bastard but in a good way. Yvw for the links. I've seen Rev. Billy & his choir perform live & they were hilarious, fun & very talented vocally. Their songs all have to do w/railing against gross commercialism. And it's like going to a church service only it's a total blast! The 24 hr. Church Of Elvis is in Portland, OR(or at least Stephanie is who started it) but after 15 yrs. of having a famous storefront in downtown Portland she had to close it due to finances. You would have adored it Sam. It was her apartment that had been a store & she had all this wild, flamboyant art & kitsch in the windows & you could put in some money into a coin slot & get these trippy cheap little prizes(like plastic dolls, bikes, superballs, etc.) w/fortunes attached to them. It became quite a famous tourist attraction for those in the know!
