New music 12" round up.

Posted almost 3 years ago

Here's a short round up of some tracks I got last month. I really love that you can get cool 12" record downloads on Emusic. I get quite a bit of them each month. These only had one track on each with one or two remixes. The first track is "Veronica's Veil" by Fan Death. It's a really great nudisco song. If you like Chromatics or Glass Candy you'll love this. No one on the net seems to know who this mystery group is but there is a concensus that they're awesome. The single was released last October on the Phantasy Sound label. Another track off that same label is La Priest's "Engine". La Priest is the frontman for synthpop group Late of the Pier. I got their album but haven't given it a proper listen yet. This track is dynamite though. Both the La Priest and Fan Death records feature a remix by UK DJ Erol Alkan. The next two tracks are electro house tracks by Stupid Fresh and Calvertron. I posted some Stupid Fresh a few months ago. Great tunes I thought. I enjoyed the original mixes much better than the remixes. So that's that. Enjoy the tunes!

i was under the impression that Fan Death was a heavy hardcore band, only come to find out they are "nudisco" - would Hercules & Love Affair be under that umbrella?

Prolly so.  When I first got it I thought the group was called Veronica's Veil and the song was Fan Death.  Cool tune I thought.  The video is fun too.

Fan Death - I liked the video concept, but disco is disco - "nu" or not
La Priest - now that's got my attention!
Stupid Fresh - I'm a sucker for that thick synth sound...
Calverton - best of the lot for me. darkly playful!

this post is sooo dancey, you're probably going to the shoe store later, eh Sam??

earthman - stay where you are.  It's safe there. :)

Scott - I'm not fond of the descriptor either.  It is what it is.  I like how the track has a sort of sultry stomp to it.  I don't like saying stomp either.  I liked the Calvertron track too.  I can only find one other thing by him that has about 4 tracks.  I'll probably get that soon.  Good stuff.  I'm well stocked on shoes.  I just need some new cardigans.  Oh that and a beard to stroke while I listen to electronic music in my smoking jacket. :)
