Serge Gainsbourg

Sometimes I just assume that people have heard a lot of music that I have. Like hearing Serge Gainsbourg for instance. If you haven't heard him before, then after you play the track above, google him and then check him out on sites like discogs or allmusic. If you find a biography it is an extra bonus. I'm sure there's some extensive posts on Mog if you click on his name above. There are many options. Just do yourself the favor. No one will make fun of you. Your brain will thank you later.

Brilliant man, nuff said.
What brought this post on, Sam?
/nosy grin
My frustration with the real world versus this much cooler fake one I live in. You don't always know about an artist until someone says something. Well I'm saying something!
I hear you Sam! S.G. is great, and I think we need more "primer" posts or maybe "passport into my world" posts like this one. Even though I've been a bit of a snob at times, I would much rather introduce people to music than hold some great air about it.
Funny thing is, I heard about SG through Tower Records magazine Pulse. They used to have a one page comic about a great musician, I always loved it. They're responsible for sparking my interest, so hopefully you will be the spark for someone else.
When I joined Mog, I soon learned about Scott Walker - who I don't know how I missed hearing about him for as long as I did, so you never know just how knowledgable someone is, you may still spring something on them.
Good for you {and for us, listeners}, Sam!
If only the real world could keep up...
Tyler - I think there needs to be more primer posts too. I try not to be a snob and assume that people have heard some artists but I keep noticing in conversation lately that I get blank stares when I mention some artists. It gets easy to get lost on the artists on Mog. I've heard a lot lately people asking if I've heard this new group called Bats For Lashes. I have to just say yes and let it go. You really never know until someone says something. Part of finding out though is taking the time to research it after you hear about it.
Anna no problem. If only there was a way to send out a newsletter or something. :)
I have to listen to this man every winter for a good month or so. Something about his music and the cold air makes everything seem alright
Is this one of the Brigitte Bardot cuts? That picture is making me thirsty for a pastis....
Rawk - He is necessary listening for sure.
ivy - Yes it is. The French version. There's a great video on YouTube of it I found today. I don't like the English one. That picture is making me want to smoke cigarettes.
got no idae whats being said but it sounds strangely compelling
Yep, he was guy who had mastered the art of inhaling....
earthman - there is really no need for understanding. Just let the song flow over you.
Ivy - ...women. :)
I am totally in favor of inhaling wiomen, though I wish my nostrils were a little bigger....
