Ukulele weeps by Jake Shimabukuro

Posted over 4 years ago
I heard about this guy on NPR the other day because he contributed a track on the new _Stars & Stripes Forever_ compilation that Janet Reno put out. It's a comp on songs about America. Looks promising. Jake Shimabukuro's ukulele playing is crazy cool. I am a giant fan of this instrument. I went out on YouTube and there's a ton of videos of his work. I gotta find an album now. Check out his version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". It gets really crazy towards the end.

  1. nicki says Whaddya know. Janet Reno is cool after all. Of course, she had to do something to restore the (musical) integrity of the office after Ashcroft's "Let the Eagle Soar." (And dig those shoulders!)

  2. fistula spume says The interview was kind of rough cause she has pretty bad Parkinson's right now and can't speak well. It seems it was her idea and she produced it but I believe it's her son-in-law that gathered together the songs and the artists. The track list looks great. Check it out on "Pitchfork":http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/43740-devendra-andrew-bird-danielson-on-janet-reno-comp.

  4. dachmo says That's great! meanwhile, I have trouble with the kazoo. Who thought it was a good idea to let Janet Reno produce an album?

  5. fistula spume says It's a stange concept for sure. I like kazoos. It depends on the song though. You have to use it carefully.

  6. soulrocket says wow, that was something. first time ive seen someone playing an ukelele as if it was a traditional guitar and his technique is so bad ass. he looks like an ok chap too.

  7. fistula spume says I wanted to say bad ass too but I always think if I spell bad ass at work some alarms will go off. Can't be too careful when working for the man. His technique is something special. He does seem nice doesn't he.
