WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Cubismo Grafico

I absolutely love Japanese music maker "Cubismo Grafico":http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=76996563. I haven't heard a single album yet but I'm sure I'll like one if I can find one. Cubismo Grafico is Gakuji Matsuda. He's a DJ and music producer from the Escalator records family. He's produced I think 4 albums now and has tons of tracks on several compilations from Japanese comps to ones for labels like Bungalow. He was also in the imensely popular Japanese group Neil & Iraiza. He's done a ton of remix work for artists all over the globe. And yet, I cannot find an album. So sad for Fistula. He's also in a rock/ska band called Cubismo Grafico Five. I just found that out today. Here's some of my favorite tracks that I have. I'm also posting a couple of videos. The first is from some compilation of (I think) soccer upsets. At least it looks that way as the song is called "The Upsetters". The second is off their new album.

  3. ivylander says I love the link between Japan and Brazil. Matsuda is closer to the intersection than anybody with the possible exception of Ryuichi Sakamoto....

  4. Hermes says "Tonight You Belong To Me" was used in an ebay add on television here. But I believe it was a version without marimba. Nice tracks, and it reminds me a bit of Towa Tei. I'll look out for this.

  5. ciphermedia says Good post FS. Am liking nearly all of these tracks, tho' the first one didn't really grab me quite as much. Trip to Rio is great. Have to chase this guy up.

  6. fistula spume says Most of their songs sound like the other ones. The first one is a last track off one of their albums. I only posted it because I'm sweet on that song. Their music has a lot of fun energy. Their whole label puts out a lot of music like this. Losfeld is good too. Hermes I wonder if the advertisement was the Patience and Prudence version. It is a bit Towa Tei-ish. Ivy I think there is an undersea railroad that musicians travel on from Brazil to Japan.
