SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

Çà et là du Japon

Posted over 2 years ago
I'm not sure if many people got Pizzicato Five's last album _Çà et là du Japon_. I really enjoyed it. The packaging is fantastic. It comes in an oversized box that folds out. There's a color booklet with lyrics and tons of way cool pictures. There's a bonus post card, sticker, and some other paper thing (it's sealed so I can't tell). Aside from the packaging being visually glorious this is an all-star jam packed P5 lovefest. Contributing artists include Yoshie, Ben Human, Rocketman, Masashiko Kitahara (of Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra), Crazy Ken, Clementine, Bertrand Burgalat, Coba, and tons more. Even the Sparks play on a song called "Kimono". Really great album and definitely not without some camp factors here and there. If you get a chance pick it up. If you have the money and they're still out there I recommend the hard copy. Hyper space fantastic fashion fun!

  4. ouvintes says I can't really say I'm into J-pop because I don't know the bands, but Pizzicato is a lot of fun. I have to get into that sort of music more. A few months ago a friend of mine bought the Katamari game for his PS2 and we loved the music on it. I downloaded the game's soundtrack. It's awesome. There are many different renditions of the theme song, it's excellent. I'll post about it later...

  5. fistula spume says I'll look out for it. I haven't played many games in years but I hear that Katamari is most excellent as well as the music. I've got a ton of Shibuya style music. I'm not so up on J-Pop myself but I think there are some exceptions.

  7. soulrocket says japanese club pop is a pretty cool concept, bungalow (the german label) released a couple of good compilations a few years ago. about p5s new album, i liked the last 2 songs the most. i am going to download this, the album might work better as a whole. thanks for bringing it here, sam.

  8. fistula spume says Yeah the album does work better as a whole. It sets it up like your jetsetting to Tokyo and having some crazy adventure. The song with Crazy Ken sounds like a Japanese gay club track but I've grown to like it. I got a few of the Bungalow stuff. They put out solid comps across the board for this style of music. Glad you liked it soulrocket. Hey steve thanks for the compliment. I try! :)

  10. fistula spume says Not off the top of my head. Times like now when I wish I had my iTunes at my work computer. No wait now that I think about it I would try to grab any Breezeblock sets. Those are always outstanding. I recommend any Avalanches mix sets. Those are crazy awesome. There's also a whole lot of podcasts out there of DJ sessions. There's a list "here":http://www.podcastingnews.com/forum/links.php?id=43.

  12. Hermes says So, finally back to a strong internet connection :). I like especially the last two songs. Have to get some Pizzicato Five, when getting my first loan. Very nice. And I have to check out those DJ sets, you recommended. Thanks Fistula

  13. fistula spume says Welcome back to the land of electronic living Hermes. Good to hear from you. Don't go too crazy with that loan! :)

  14. poebegone says thanks for this. i must confess i have not given much thought to Pizzicato Five ever since Happy End of the World a million lightyears ago. In America and AEIOU are lovely, certainly good reason to reconnect with those spacey Jap hipsters. (albeit their catalogue is a nightmare to follow.)

  17. fistula spume says Glad I could take you back Lizzie. I've got quite a bit of their stuff. Most of it's on vinyl so I haven't heard it in a while. I wish they still put out stuff but I guess they were getting bored with it. Really great last album. That'll do Doombilly.

  18. Viva La Britt says Hm. "Sakura Sakura" kind of threw me (it was like part Cibo Matto/ part Ben Folds-not necessarily a bad thing, but my brain just can't process such madness right now) but "AEIOU" went down quite smoothly. Thank you for the shares, Sam.

  19. fistula spume says Probably a bit much at this hour. Happy to share. "AEIOU" is sung by Clementine who is from Brazil but is pretty much anchored in Japan. She has a huge following there. She does Brazilian classics only a little contemporary.

  22. Kevbo says Pizzicato 5 are always delightfully quirky, suave, hip, poppy, catchy. Didn't know they were still making tunes.

  23. fistula spume says They're not making anymore as a group sadly. I did see I think a couple of years ago there was some sort of collaboration album that you could've called a P5 album. Both Nomiya Maki and Konishi Yasuharu are still putting out albums separately now. Konishi produces a lot of other peoples work. Great stuff all around.

  24. Carrfan says Great addition to your page, great cocktail music will have some champagne and I'll start my weekend now!. I didn't realize that there was an CD named P 5 since I am a follower of P-1, which on their page have a copy of videos so far. Couldn't ask for a awesome fun informative group with everyone here at MOG . Thanks for mentioning ORY and all his work. You have a great music page too. Off to listen some more!
