"Halcali":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halcali is a prefab J-Pop/Hip Hop girl duo from Japan. Their name is a combination Haruka (Halca) and Yukari (Yucali). The two girls auditioned for the group when they were in school. When they got the parts they didn't know what Hip Hop was. Their music is fun and free spirited and the lyrics are pretty nonsensical. Their first album Halcali Bacon came out in 2003. They have a huge and devoted following worldwide. To date they have 3 albums, several singles, and a remix album. I read somewhere that Fantastic Plastic Machine had a hand in putting together their first couple of albums. They thought he was just some fat guy. They don't make serious music but it's fun. I don't like all of their tracks but what I do like makes up for that flaw. If you enjoy this then please do not watch their YouTube videos. They're awful. It almost ruined some songs for me. It's not awful in a kitschy "oh those wacky Japanese people" kind of way. It's just bad. Hope you like these tracks. I'm not always into J-Pop but there something slightly different about Halcali that I quite like.

Are you chuckilng to yourself? You knew I'd take this bait, didn't you?
This is like the Oriental flavored Junior-Senior project. Very nice and, as you said, fun. But, please consider your posting technique. Of what use is a post about cute little j-pop girls without pictures? Eh? Wot's up with that?

I knew you'd grab. I'm keeping this post clean scotfree! Really all you have to do is google pictures of them and you'd find a treasure trove of cute pictures. They mostly wore hip hop track gear in the beginning to look all preppy but now they've diversified.

You should've just posted the video and saved everyone the trouble. You know 90% of all who read this will be checking out the video for "Girl Girl Surfrider". Japanese culture just fascinate's me and baffle's me at the same time.

Now that one is almost good but it doesn't do the song justice. Yes it's a "Thriller" copy but it's just bad. Halcali's dancing makes me flinch. I can't watch it. So uncomfortable. I did learn from "Giri Giri Surfrider" that there is a movement where kids all dress up in the same character clothes and then meet up somewhere public and put on a musical dance routine. I can't remember what it's called but that is so Japanese.
