Café Après-midi Part 7

Posted over 2 years ago
Well here we are on day 7 of my Café Après-midi posts. This is the last one. Probably good as I'm losing steam but I do have four more tracks for you to devour. If you missed the other posts here are the links for you to peruse. "Café Aprés Midi":http://mog.com/fistula_spume/blog_post/102610"Saravah for Café Après-Midi":http://mog.com/fistula_spume/blog_post/103262"Café Après-Midi Part 3":http://mog.com/fistula_spume/blog_post/103296"Café Après-midi Part 4":http://mog.com/fistula_spume/blog_post/103726"Black Jazz for Café Après-midi":http://mog.com/fistula_spume/blog_post/103899"Café Après-midi Part 6":http://mog.com/fistula_spume/blog_post/104031IMHO Astrud Gilberto's version of "Windy" I find is far superior to The Association's version.

  1. fistula spume says Cal Tjader is just plain awesome in my book. I think this song is just as it's title suggests. It's fresh air. It's light, it's crisp, and it won't make you sneeze.

  2. fistula spume says I like to think of Jackie & Roy as the Captain & Tennille of the jazz world. They're so full of gumption and can do and moxy. You hear them and think this couple found the sunny side and never looked back. Some of their songs are almost too syrupy for me but I like this one.

  3. fistula spume says I've got some Pale Fountains songs and they sound nothing like this. This song comes from part 2 of the _Crepuscule for Café Après-midi_ series. I quite like it.

  4. Max Load says I love Cal Tjader. Track and picture of my gorgeous bongos coming up at the usual place.

  6. ookpik says oh astrud. that is hilarious/great. i don't think astrud gets compared to nico enough-- she has a similarly flat inflection (accents can do that, i guess).

  7. fistula spume says She has that certain je ne sais what? I love her voice. With all it's imperfections. Even when she's singing a goofy pop song. Love me some Nico too. They could've got with Billie Holiday and formed a super group.

  8. ivylander says Astrud is affectless because that's a certain Brazilian style. (To me, Nara Leao is the epitome of that style.) Nico is affectless because she was simply superior to you and me - and. later, because she was too strung out to connect. But you're right - the end result is remarkably similar....

  9. fistula spume says Astrud is the prettiest of the bunch in my book so if there was a super group she'd have to be the Diana Ross figure.
