Crowe's Hot Temper Mocked In Band's New Song

An angry encounter with hot-tempered Hollywood star Russell Crowe has inspired an Irish rock band's latest single.

Gaelic Storm frontman Patrick Murphy claims The Night I Punched Russell Crowe is about a fight he had with the actor during his previous career as a bartender.

Murphy claims he hit Crowe when the actor refused to put out his cigarette.

The song lyrics include, "He squared right up to me, somewhat in surprise. Then he narrowed up his gaze, shot me daggers with his eyes. 'If you think you're man enough, go ahead,' he said. I was scared for me life, so I dawked (punched) him in the head.

"He lifted up his hands, put them to his nose. Blood was running through his fingers, dripping on his clothes. His bodyguards ran up. 'Get him,' shouted Crowe... 'You can't hit me, I'm the Cinderella Man, I'm the Master and Commander, I'm Australian... Don't you know I'm dangerous? I'm the outlaw Ben Wade. I am Maximus!' "

A spokesperson for Crowe denies the incident ever occurred, saying, "I don't know if (Crowe) knows anything about it. Who cares?"

{end quote}

This sort of puts me in mind of the way that a couple of Atlanta bands took off on my friend Dave Lindsay, who used to write music crit for Creative Loafing but now writes raving further-right-than-Hannitay screeds thinly disguised as movie revews for Stomp & Stammer.

One duo (sort of a male, though not necessarily gay, would-be Indigo Girls), named Billy Pilgrim (a name lifted from the works of Kurt Vonnegut, which they threatened to sue a longer-established band who didn't have a record deal and couldn't afford to lawyer-up in order to get the use of), who had been strafed in print by Dave, released a song called Dave's Rag that tried to ridicule his criticism.

Some other local musicians did at least a few gigs under the brilliantly-funny name David T. Lindsay is Bald

Boy, the biting wit and satire of secondrate musicians.

Hey, as Anna Russell says about two-thirds through her narration of the "Ring" cycle: "Hey - I'm not making this stuff up, you know!"
