    fairportfan says Hmmm. I saw Van Ronk five or six times in the last fifteen or so years bafore his death, but i don't recall him ever doing that. (I just checked my "Train Songs" section - i see i have a version by John Hammond, but not one by Van Ronk...)

The funny thing was, the first two times i saw Van Ronk, it was within a couple of weeks of seeing the *Washington Squares*, who could almost be referred to as a "tribure band" to Van Ronk and the rest of the Village blues/folk scene from the Fifties/Sixties..." (*Click here*":http://electronictiger.com/avail/friend.mp3).
    ...now, the funny thing about this song is that I distinctly remember that I learned it from Eric von Schmidt, and Eric learned it from Bobby Zimmerman.
    But Bobby swore he learned it from me.
    So we had a little friendly meeting and Eric and I voted to share the royalties...

    B42 says The Washington Squares, that is so funny, The Byrds version of this comes to mind, one of my favs off of one of my favorite albums, but Jerry Jeff and Ramblin' Jack also did a great cut of it.
