Jimmy's, 8200 Willow St, New Orleans: Memories

I posted a comment on "*Anna's MOG*":http://mog.com/Anna/blog_post/53109 (and, no, this is *not* that comment recycled) in which i mentioned being at *Jimmy's* in New Orleans for a *Dash Rip Rock* New Year show.Jimmy's (Red circle in the above satellite pic; 8200 Willow Street, New Orleans. The big white building - yes, it does cover a whle city block - is the trolley barn; in the full-sized version of this pic you can see the tracks turning off Carrollton Avenu, running up the middle of Willow Street and swinging into the barn right in front of Jimmy's more clearly) seems to have gone to hell, judging by online reviews and comments.Sad; it was a great music club for a long time. Many's the night i spent at Jimmy's for DRR shows (and others) when i was in NOLa; especially Dash's New Year and Mardi Gras shows.I remember a video in the early days of MTV - Fire in the City by *The Elvis Brothers* - partly filmed in Jimmy's. The interior layour at Jimmy's is easily recognisable, though when i was there there were 24" x 36" posters for all sorts of past shows hanging from the rafters and the stage was a bit different. I nearly killed myself going backstage at Jimmy's once; it was dark and i couldn't see that the stairs from the stage down to the back were narrower than the top level step made it appear, and i stepped off into three steps worth of empty space.Carrying a VHS camcorder.Amusingly, the video starts in the Quarter; i've seen that hot dog cart on and off on Bourbon Street, mostly 'round the corner from the Acme Oyster House on Iberville. This is a map showing how to get from the Acme Oyster House to Jimmy's:Looks like about 5Km as the crow flies, twice that by the NOLa streets...(Locals would swing south on Claiborne to Carrollton Avenue, and take that to Willow instead of taking the Interstate...)
