I think between us, Bill Clinton and I have settled any lingering myths about the brilliance of Rhodes scholars."Kris Kristofferson

  1. Spike says You're going deep on me, and I'm confused once again. Was Kris being charmingly self-deprecatory or candidly proud? To try gently to steer this colloquium towards the topic of music for the sake of music, I recommend that one enjoy Kristofferson's snide song, "The Best of All Possible Worlds."

  2. fairportfan says I think (C) All of the above. Let's just say that while oth are blindingly intelligent, both have also been known to walk into "standing outside in the rain wondering why they're wet" territory Joking about what the meaning of the word "is" is, even when it's a totally legitimate point to quibble about, when one is dealing with a prosecutor who is out to get one and is probably about 1/3 as smart and has no sense of humour as on, is not the best way to stay out of trouble. (And it as a legitimate quibble - the question was phrased as "Is your relationship...?", regarding a relatonship that *had* been but by that time wasn't. So Clinton could have simply answered "No" and been talling the perfect truth. (But he had to be a smart ass...) Once upon a time a little bird was freezing on the priarie. Along came a buffalo, and deposited a nice big, warm, steaming pile of processed grass by products right on top of the bird, who was then warm and sheltered from the wind. But he was rather disgusted by it, and proceeded to complain loudly. And along came a coyote, dug him out of the pile, and, being hungry and not particularly fastidious, ate him. This story has two morals: Someone who gets you out of a bad situation isn't necessarily your friend, and someone who dumps on you isn't necessarily meaning to harm you. and: When you're in poo-poo up to your nose, keep your mouth shut.

  3. Spike says I prefer irony to an unwrinkled shirt, and enjoy these morality tales. I didn't know about the "Is your relationship...?" angle. Clinton was mostly brilliant, but a little stupid about some things. There's an old Yiddish saying that an erect penis has no brain. Not good when you're thinking locally but acting globally.

  5. B42 says Excellent, reminds me of my "overly - educated" Uncle, who hasn't got a lick of common sense and pretends to be able to relate with anyone on any level, but suffers accordingly when he tries.
