  1. fairportfan says For extra credit, what label was this copy of *Revolver* on?

  2. ivylander says Klaus Voormann for sure was responsible for "Revolver," which probably came out on parlophone. As far as T Rex is concerned, I believe Ringo Starr was photographing him (even making a movie, if I recall correctly), so I'm going to take a flyer and say the snap is his.

  3. fairportfan says Doggone. Fast. I was hoping for at least *some* "HUH?" posts first... As to the label, no guessing about it:

  4. ivylander says Sorry, didn't mean to kill this off so fast. Just happened to tune in at the right (or wrong) time, I guess....

  5. Spike says HUH?

  6. Redvers Gerund says The great Klaus Voormann, who also found time to be the bassist in Manfred Mann and the Plastic Ono Band. Some people lead very full lives. If the Beatles had been German, he would have been Mal.

  7. Terry Staunton says Ooh, I like a bit of pop art trivia. Sorry that I came a bit late to this. Anyone want to try these questions, all related to singles or albums covers. 1. Which actor links a Smiths singles sleeve and a song by The Kinks? 2. How did ten-month old Spencer Eldon achieve notoriety? 3. The front cover featured a painting by Eamonn Singer, the back cover claimed guitars and vocals were by Napoleon Dynamite - but both of these are the same person. How is he better known, and what was the title of this 1986 album? 4. Which group's 1973 album included a message specifically for Stevie Wonder, the words "we love you, baby" in braile on its back sleeve? 5. How does legendary rock photographer Pennie Smith remember the precise minute she took the iconic shot which features on the sleeve of The Clash's London Calling album? I'm off to bed now, it's 20 past midnight UK time, but I'll check back at about 9am to see how anyone's doing with these, and to reveal any answers that might have alluded you. Sweet dreams, Moggers. xx

  8. ivylander says 3. is Elvis Costello's "Blood and Chocolate." The rest are too difficult for this civilian, Mr. Staunton.

  9. fairportfan says I'll have to think about those. (I'm guessing the Kinks song is either *Waterloo Sunset* or *Oklahoma USA*, but i'm only passingly familiar with the Smiths) But while i do, whose album cover features Count Dracula (so to speak), a Member of Parliament and a boxer in addition to the band?

  10. Terry Staunton says I think the album cover you mention might be the Wings classic Band On The Run which features Count Dracula (Christopher Lee), a Member of Parliament (Clement Freud) and a boxer (John Conteh). The classic shot also features a Hollywood legend (James Coburn), a British comedy actor/singer (Kenny Lynch) and a chat show host (Michael Parkinson). And the answers to my five questions are... 1. Terence Stamp. He's the cover star of The Smiths' What Difference Does It Make?, and, along with Julie Christie, is mentioned in, yes, The Kinks' Waterloo Sunset - first names only, though. 2. Spencer Eldon was the name of the baby in the pool on Nirvana's Nevermind. 3. Correct, ivylander, it is indeed Elvis Costello and Blood & Chocolate. 4. The Stevie Wonder braile message can be found (felt?) on the original pressings of Red Rose Speedway by Paul McCartney & Wings. 5. Clash bassist Paul Simonon's watch fell off as he smashed his instrument on stage, and it got caught up in the destruction. He subsequently gave the broken timepiece to photographer Pennie Smith as a memento, hence she knows exactly when the picture was taken - ie, whenever it was that the hands stopped.

  11. fairportfan says I can't believe that i thought about Kinks songs that name actors and forgot *Celluloid Heroes* - the song that first really caught my interest enough to discover who that was and track down the album. Can nayone else think of any more Kinks songs that name-check actors? As to the Clash question - that one fascinated me enough that i hunted up the answer on Google; however, that wasn't fair, so i didn't post it. (It was 10:50PM, BTW)
