I am Not a number! I am a ... Music Video?

Back in the 80s, i heard about a video that *Altered Images* had done, that was based on the cult Sixties teevee show, The Prisoner. Never saw it.For some reason, tonight i checked YouTube for it, and Low and Be Held, there it was.I really like it.(I heard at the time that the band said that none of them remembered The Prisoner - not surprising since the video is from 1982 and The Prisoner ran in '67 {with a rerun in '68}, and that the video producer hauled them off to The Village {Portmeiron, Wales}, handed them their costumes and told them what to do without explaining anything ... then showed them some episodes of the show *after* they finished filming.)Now i need to find Chrissy Hynde's Avengers video...*Current NationalTerror Alert Level*Terror Alert Level

  1. Terry Staunton says XTC made a couple of videos at Portmeirion forChannel 4's The Tube (I think) in about 1986, from their Skylarking album. I recall Andy Partridge wearing a Patrick McGoohan type blazer, but I'm not sure what the songs were. And continuing the 60s cult telly theme, the lovely Alexandra Bastedos from The Champions was the cover star of The Smiths' live album, Rank.

  2. fairportfan says Actually, Wikipedia's article about The Prisoner, vis which i tracked down the video, mentions that the final episode of The Tube was a fairly extensive Prisoner parody. (And harking to my next post, *The Pretenders*'s Don't Get Me Wrong, which is based on The Avengers), i always thought that there could have been one moment of actual humour in that wretched film version of The Avengers if, as Steed and Peel arrived at HQ the first time and drove down into the underground garage, scowling young man wearing a white-trimmed black blazer had been driving angrily out in a BRG Lotus 7 with yellow trim... *Current National Terror Alert Level* Terror Alert Level

  3. Kate says I am going to release my inner nerd for a minute here. I spent some time in England in 2003, and made a pilgrimage to Portmeirion. It is exactly the same as it appeared in the Prisoner. I seriously believe the Prisoner is the best television show ever, and that Patrick McGoohan is a genius. Okay, i'm done now.
