Happy Birthday to the Singing Brakeman
-
Artist:
I'm running late - i only have a bit more than two hours before Jimmie Rodgers' birthday will be over (well, in his hometown in Mississippi, anyway).
As Mojo Nixon said this evening on Sirius's Outlaw Country channel, you can argue strongly that the Singing Brakeman is pretty much the true father of country music.
So, for your listening pleasure, here are two different versions of my favourite Jimmie Rodgers song...

Great post, fairportfan. Hearing Dickey Betts go this retro is a turn of events. I had been pondering posting the following item for quite a while and had put it off, but this is this is the perfect spot for it: a merry-go-round performing "Streets of New York," a popular waltz from the bygone days and my guess for Jimmie Rodgers' inspiration for his non-waltz "Waiting for a Train." It's from a 1961 Folkways LP Music of the Carousel. If somebody else has already noted the link, I'd like to know about it.
I had a long post responding to your comment and MOG ate it.
It's from an album called Songs of Jimmie Rodgers (a Tribute).
.
Track list:
Best tracks: 3, 4, 8, 10, 11.
Worst by far: 9.
Best version of Blue Yodel #9 - Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, on their album Two Roads: Live in Australia.
That looks like a cool CD. Sorry that MOG ate your post. Did your comment replicate it? If not, can you replicate it? It's not every day that someone writes a long post responding to one of my comments.
