Two Freds at JazzFest 2000

Posted about 1 year ago
That's me. I'm wearing step-daughter Helen's high school chemistry project.Fred's the hat. Can anyone guess why i named it that?I'll post the answer in a comment in a while.Bought that hat in 1986. Wore it to i-don't-know-how-many JazzFests, two Cropredy Festivals, at least one Nashville Riverwalk, and a lot of other thinsg. In '93 a guy in Nashville who worked in a hat shop offered to buy it for more than i'd originally paid for it.We lost it when we moved in '03.That's *Fred leBlanc* from *Cowboy Mouth*; for years (possibly still) Fred and JazzFest management engaged in a battle over Fred's tendency to grab an FM hand mike and a tomtom and climb the stage rigging to do a song or two.One year they had guards at all the stage support risers; Fred headed out into the crowd with his hand mike, borrowed someone's rally flag so we could see him as he wandered around (Fred's not real tall and there were thousands of people out there...The guards relaxed a bit, and suddenly they heard Fred yell "Hey, mother f**kers - out here!" and the looked and he was on the roof of the sound booth.(At JazzFest 2000, Fred wished step-daughter Helen a happy sweet sixteen from the stage...)
