My parents loathed "Danny Boy," probably because they had seen it murdered by so many square singers over the years. They would have enjoyed the above video, as I did. Long ago I foisted the versions below (the first from 1985, the second from 1959) into a comment. Forgive me if you aren't ready for them again.

At least one Irish pub in NYC banned singing *Danny Boy* at all this year.

(One year there was a fairly decent little five-piece that had a pitch by the French Market. They were there each time i visited NOLa over that summer. They quickly learnt to recognise me and would play *St James Infirmary* whenever they spotted me.)
I read somewhere that the version of the *Derry Air* that was used for *Danny Boy* was actually incorrectly transcribed - wrong key and/or time signature...
