the left hand is, we always say, the demon-devil side...

Dory Previn introduces her song, *Left Hand Lost*:
i was born left-handed.
but the nuns where i went to school said it wasn't good, and so they broke me of it.
and now i'm right-handed, just like i'm supposed to be, and i'm fine
{beat}
no, i'm just fine.
really.
Many of Dory's songs speak of trauma, loss and personal angish.
I'm left-handed, and, luckily, i was never forced to change.
This one - especially the last verse - really gets to me.

  1. megspub says Wow! Someone who listens to Dory??? I have vinyl of Mythical Kings and Iguanas and On My Way to Where that I still find spinning on my turntable from time to time. Any kind words for Buffy Sainte-Marie? Another original/never to be copied artist?

  2. fairportfan says Yup You know that the entire Previn catalog (well, pretty much; might be one or two missing) is available on CD as 2-fers - two LPs per CD (and, of course, "Carnegie Hall" is one CD), right? I'm not so much into Buffy, but what i've encountered is Quite Nice. Got to post *Starlet Starlet on the Screen Who Will Fopllow Norma Jean?* someday; i want to see how people around here react to it. Especially the last line.

  3. megspub says OK, so I'm a little (ummm...maybe a lot) new here...just how do I get to a specific post?

  4. Spike says megspub, getting to a specific post sometimes is not easy. If you know if an artist or group, say Dory Previn, was tagged, then go to the top right corner of this window and find where it says "Find your favorite music." Type in the name of the act, Dory Previn, and you'll hopefully see her name in bold letters as part of a list. Click her name and you'll go to a page devoted to her, including a list of posts about her, starting with the most recent. In this case, even though this is a Dory Previn post, it isn't listed. Another way to find a particular post is to remember who posted it, for instance fairportfan, go to the URL http://mog.com/fairportfan and start going through that Mogger's posts, one by one.

  5. megspub says Thanks for the help. I'll try just that.
