So *John Mellencamp* is going to go into the Rock Hall of Fame.I still mostly think of him as "that kid who really really *really* wanted to be Springsteen" when he opened for the Kinks in 1977...

The criteria for inclusion used to be importance and influence, neither of which would apply to Johnny Cougar.

  2. Bartleby says The sheer fact that the RnR Hall of Fame boggles me...as I can't define what rock and roll is for the life of me.

  3. fairportfan says Actually, Mellencamp has turned into a fairly solid performer in a lot of ways - his version of the Rodgers "Gamblin' Bar Room Blues" that i referenced in the tags is pretty damn good. I came away from the '78 Kinks show i went to with an antipathy to Tom Petty that lasted for years.
