ohkay.

that was abso-fucking-lutely amazing. first off...how did winston luck out like that to have this lovely band come play here i will never know. but who cares. it was bloody fucking amazing.

first off the noisettes were electric. the energy in the place was tangible. everyone had a smile on their face. truly enjoying great music. something that's magic to see.

then bloc party. wow. wow. wow. it was just different. so fun. they were all so young and charming. russell was blowing my mind the whole time.

i dont even know if there are words for that.

i just am still buzzed. soberly buzzed. everyone was so nice and having a great time. that's what it's all about.

just, if you ever get the chance, do not hesitate to go and see bloc live. i honestly felt like i was experiencing something i would be recounting later, you know? after missing them earlier this year (because of collapsed lungage) i was beyond grateful to see them. i needed that.

hope y'all are well! and enjoying your nights.

Seeing Cursive tonight in B-More and again on Friday at Cat's Cradle. Without a doubt I will see a Mogger at one of those shows. Hope you enjoy it as much as I will! Cheers. And if you see me, give a wave :)

la musica survey

1. What is the one album you can listen to from start to finish?

+ I'd love to say Tori Amos "Little Earthquakes" but occasionally I have to skip 'China'...so...hm...In all honesty if I'm in the mood Coheed and Cambria's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth--it's really like a story and whilst reading or driving I can dive right on it and get lost.

2.What is the best album you have purchased in the last six months?

+ oh goodness...since December? I'm really into Charlie Parker right now so I can't answer honestly...Maria Taylor was certainly a good buy. and honestly...I'm adoring the Grey's Anatomy Soundtrack. Especially Gomez's song on it. Oooh and the Thomas Crown Affair's ST. Black & White X 5 is perfection...I wish I had more piano choir music...fer real. Brand New's new one was good too. Like four of those songs (Jesus Christ, Sowing Season, Degausser and Millstone) are just beautifully written. OH!! Regina Spektor!! 11:11 and soviet kitsch.

3.What album are you looking forward to in the next six months?

+ what's coming out? i never pay attention and pick up on music way too late.

4. You have been put in charge of a concert. You are to have three top-billers, of any genre you choose. Who do you get to play?

+ easy: Cursive. Prince. andddddd Pinback? Goodness why not like 10 bands. this sure is tough.

5.If you could have any band that is not currently reunite, reunite who would it be? All band members must be alive.

+ fuck. I wanted Nirvana. but I'll go with RATM but I guess they're already reunitedish. How about APC they're "not broken up" but we all know they sorta are.

6. If you could be one musician for a day, who would it be? Again, the artist needs to be alive.

+ Tom Morello. no questions asked. may I PLEASE rock that hard? i love tim kasher, but tom is just iconic.

7.What band or artist do you wish would quit the music business altogether?

+ Britney Spears. she's just doing terrible things to herself and I wish she'd take her cash and go somewhere quiet to get some peace of mind and clarity. plus she's really projecting an awful image to young people who worship her. it'd do everyone a bit of good and musically she wouldnt be missed.

8. What are you currently listening to?

+ Pinback's Penelope: my theme song.

9. What is the most embarrassing musical purchase you have ever made for yourself?

+ my first: Vitamin C. wait that actually has some decent shit on it :). no...maybe...Limp Bizkit? I have a ton of guilty pleasures that I get very embarassed when people browse my iPod for that I can't let go of. Nickelback. 3 doors downs. tons of my old emo-y stuff, y'know. plus Eminem. he;s so chauvinistic but I absolutely adore him.
10. What musical purchase are you most proud of?

+ cursive. without a doubt. buying all there music was actually lifechanging. they are the one band i never regret buying products, music and tickets for. they really just fit me so well.

beautiful song but is that even remotely possible?

a clean getaway...
(it felt just like love. except no fear of losing and it wasn't tough)

i love saddle creek.
i can't wait to take two w/ darling dearest CURSIVE (hyperventialting) at Cat's Craddle. wheeeee! yea!!!

What Have I Been Thinking...??!!!

Okay. I admit it...I have gotten pretty wrapped up in petty things such as 15 page papers and group projects...perfomance tech weeks, volunteering and inane, unimportant shit like that. When in actuality I should be doing what I like best, lazing about and reading all the witty, wonderful things written on mog. I admit it, this is quite possibly the most clever, amazing site I have on my cool little firefox-tab-bar-y thing. And that's saying something. I just wanted to tell you all-quite tritely-you rock.

What have I been doing music-wise lately... Well I can tell you what I didn't do--I didn't go to Duke to see T.I. do his "concert". I.E: Opening up at a Baptist University, with mostly black people who had come to listen to rap, with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! Screaming out "Satan! Satan!" Um. Yeah. They got a few boos here and there...And then he played for 25 minutes. Of course, the poor college students who had shovelled out their hard earned, scraped together pennies to pay for the concert were, let's say-disappointed.

I just love live music. And I hate bad live music. Even if I didn't go. It just makes me sad. Because live music is supposed to make people take off their clothes and sway and kiss eachother and shit. Or at very least close their eyes and bask in the glory that is that little vibration in the center of your chest from the amps. MMMM...and that collective voice of fanatical fans shouting out the best line from the best song at the very top of their lungs.

I wish I had musical talent so I could have that power.

I dance to it. That'll have to do.

Goal: to choregraph an entire set of pieces to

a. blue man group
b. radiohead

um...yes please.

or at very least to choreograph an entire night of pieces with the muscians on stage playing live music with the dancers...mmmmmmmm...chilllsssss.

aight.
take care all.

coming to you from rainy, damp, sad winston-salem. hope it's sunshiney in your little piece of the world!

whee,

jza

bah!

okay once upon a time i did a dance randomly in some crowded LA studio to a song:
i remembered the lyrics 'cause i tend to pick up lyrics relatively well -- so i searched the web--found one sight with the song lyrics discovered it's Inner--My Philosphy off their Karaoke album apparently--can not find the song anywhere though--any suggestions? it's making me crazy.

I want this song.

Hope everyone is well!
here are the lyrics in case anyone recognizes it:

love, prepare yourself to shine
i have no other way
you should know by now

no, there’s no reason to hide
we all know you’ve got pain
we all know you’ve got pride
i really love your pride

as i see my reflection
shining from the corners of your eyes

yes, it’s my philosophy
that when i believe in you,
i believe in me, i believe in me

love, i’m tired of nostalgia,
it’s just trapped imagination
i’m happy with right now

no, it’s not that i’m afraid
of something i may find
it’s just all those designs
we put on everything

once we’ve had the experience
romanticized until it’s worth a while

my love, i want to know the truth
i want an empty room that i can scream in
don’t have to believe in

my love, i want to be myself
but not all by myself, not all by myself

yes, it’s my philosophy
that when i believe in you,
i believe in me, i believe in me

love, i don’t know how to say
it felt good to walk away
take back some of what is mine
‘cause it’s hard to see you shine
‘cause it’ hard to see you shining (e)
when i’m here slowly dying

you know i don’t feel proud to be so selfish
i don’t really mean to bring you down

(yes, it’s my philosophy
that if i'm accepting you
you're accepting me......)

yes, it’s my philosophy
that when i believe in you,
i believe in me, i believe in

yes, it’s my philosophy
that when i believe in you,
i believe in me, i believe in

yes, it’s my philosophy
that when i believe in you,
i believe in me, i believe in me..

All right:

ya got your:

Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Chris Cornell and your Audioslave.

Nice.

if divorce isnt illegal i dont think gay marriage should be.

fuuuuck breakkkk come quicker.
never thought i'd say those two words.

But Chris is my fav. His solo album Sweet Euphoria changed my life.

Lyrcis now:
Little one dont be a fool
Im a wreck when I look mighty
In euphoria Im bruised
In confusion next Im lightning
In complacence I am small
Through oblivion I charge

So follow my way
When Im not leading anyone
Open and frayed
When you can see that Im unsure
Out on my way
Im only pure when I get lost
And youre only needing
When youre finding that Im not

Youre just looking for a boy
Bathed in infrared and sunlight
Im all polish and reward
When Im confident Im hopeless
Just like everybody else
Right before they fall apart

So follow my way
When I am falling from your heart
When Im in pain
Fever and sweet relief in one
Out on my way
Though Im not worthy of your trust
Follow me down into a swan dive
All eyes closed tightly

Lowly, slowly now I know I like
Where you go when youre gone
Warm you hands inside my veins
I might be contagious
Through oblivion I charge

Follow my way
When Im useless to your cause
When I derail
Calm in the patience of remorse
Out on my way
Out on my empty open nerves

it has been to long, my beloeved Mog, has it not?

obssession of the moment:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2013028320

love that song.

ummmm.
also i lot of regina spektor. 'specially chemo limo. come to think of it. i wanna listen to it--AGAIN.

overworked and underpaid. counting down the breaths to spring break.
still stressing over life with that boy.
trying to come to some sort of compromise.

-jza

but seriously...just stop whatever it is you are doing at the moment...unless it's brain surgery or something of that sort...and go listen to Chemo Limo and if you fucking don't think it's original, lovely and perfect than GO FUCK YOUR MOTHER. (sorry it's a joke beside my roomie and i, i am by no means encouraging or condoning incest, kay?)

at least not yet. no one song sticks out. it kinda seems focusless. the lyrics aren't as moving or clever.

Oh Goodness!

Allrighty.

So. Last night was essay time so there was no super bowl viewing for me. I just wnated to see halftime and I want to keep my GPA up even more...

but I just watched Prince's halftime...and their is a possibility I am biased because I was literally raised on Prince (with my mother turning the volume down during particularly risque parts during my early years) and DAMN! I LOVED IT. Usually I give a huge thumbs down to music at sporting events, but not only was the sound great but he kept such high energy and I loved it.

I was particularly impressed with the marching band--man they were getting down and looked like they not only loved what they were playing but that they were having an awesome time.

In other news...I can only imagine what kind of top notch techies they had to pull off that stunt so well--I feel for the s.m. who was probably calling a million cues...LOL!

To those underappreciated techies who never get to bow for their work or getting screams and craziness:

GREAT JOB! Flawless.

But yeah.

Just wanted to say that.

what fun lyrics...oh how different they all are...brand new...darlings...im confused:

goodbye to sex
i wish i could say sorry to my ex
take apart your head
chew it up and swallow it

goodbye to love
i have pushed you up right against the wall
take apart your head
chew it up and swallow it

where is it that you're running?
pretty soon you'll be back tonight
you can't say the things that I'm feeling
I'll never do anything right.

goodbye you liar
its simple 'cause you don't owe up to anything,
but you think you could inspire
take apart your head
take apart the demon that weighs heavy on your head

where is it that you're running?
pretty soon you'll be back tonight
you can't can't listen to your demons
they'll never get anything right

i'm on my own
I'll never get anything right
I'm on my own

please take me back to your bed
i love you so much that it hurts my head
i don't mind you under my skin
let the bad parts in, the bad parts in
when we were made we play the part
life is a test where i get bad marks
(i have no clue about this line)
the storm is coming, the storm is coming in

where is it that you're running
pretty soon you'll be back tonight
you can't can't listen to your demons
they'll never say anything right

i'm on my own
I'll never say anything right
I'm On My OWN

please take me back to your bed
i love you so much that it hurts my head
i don't mind you under my skin
let the bad parts in the bad parts in
you're my favorite bird and when you sing
i really do wish that you'd wear my ring
no matter what they say i am still the king
now the storm is coming
the storm is coming in.

no matter which lyrical choice is right. i think i kinda am in love. still. what is it w/ me and brand new these days. theyre like crack. yummie yummie crack.

go [bad] fish!

all right.

dude. i had such a massively incredible time last night at Ziggy's. it's such an amazing venue. it just felt so comfortable especially after being in pretty tight-ass-collar-popped-greek world for a tad too long.

Scotty Don't and THE MOVEMENT and DUB ISLAND SOUND SYSTEM we're all great as well. I was jumping around like a crazy person enjoying the entire feel of the place with a great group of guys and girl.

But all in all, if you have a chance to go see a show at Ziggy's--do it--half the fun was just how chill it was. Great price for tickets.

The Movement--the opening band--was mindblowing. Their personaility on stage was tangibly exciting. and it also helped that their songs had that energy that you could just close your eyes to and feel through every inch of your skin.

But right now I should be reviewing before I rush to class (sigh) so more later? M'kay?

So stoked for Decembrist/TV on the Radio.

I have seen so much awesome live music this year which is a huge treat after not being allowed to ever go to shows for so long...thus far we have...

The Black Eyed Peas...who opened for them? not that important. cause it was MISERABLE. and rainy. and gross. and i wasn't high enough for Fergie's shitty performance or the rain/mud everywhere. blech.

Brand New/Dashboard: went mainly for Brand New. and have to admit I was a little disappointed at them live. although there is absolutely nothing that could make me love them any less.

Bloc Party/Jack's Mannequin/Panic! at the Disco: hey stop making fun of me...okay. i went for bloc party...and then...uh...the drummer like punctured a fucking lung. i nearly cried.

Cursive/Jeremy Knight/Fing Fang Foo/the Cops: okay I was in love with Fing Fang Foo...and of course...Cursive was life changing and I wanted to die and live inside that experience. Plus Cat's Cradle is my kind of place. and i got a free sweatshirt out of the experience.

I think that brings us up to date for the year...wheee!

damn. im so behind in school work.

guitaring

um, i think i have an important annoucement to make--i'm finally hopping on one of my life goals and learning how to play the guitar. i figure every show i go to i sit there in awe and wish wish wish i could do what these people do, so if i have the opportunity to take free, weekly lessons AND get credit i'd have to be a crazy to not take advantage.

i have a new baby...i named her Sophia. But that's just a working name. Who knows? After I play her a bit more she/he/it might be something entirely different.

it's a Dauphin...and since I know didly shit about guitars, I don't know if that's good or not. Is it weird that I sat there doing the little shit we learned yesterday over and over and was so insanely stoked when my teacher told me I was holding my guitar properly. I can't wait to get blisters and do amazing things---eeee!!

What else?

Hm. Andrew Bird and Nick Drake have taken over my life...

And tonight--Ziggy's--Badfish (that Sublime coverband) I'm pretty stoked...if only I could find someone to go with me..:huge disappointed face:: whatever. live music? i dont mind having to go alone. i'll meet people there.

Grinding Teeth, Growling, Putting on Headphones and Wanting to Disappear (i.e. ANGST)

okay. when i voted to come to wake forest university there was an interesting factor that was influencing my decision subconcsiously, okay? i finally admit it and every time someone asks me why i came here i guess that should be the response. i was in love. and well, shit, if you look at any decisions i made around that era they were equally bad.

cause i can assure you it's not because i own a single coach bag or dream of marrying a kappa sig boy with little animals imprinted on his pants.

right now i'm enjoying rifling through the shared music that my dorm has to offer. quite possibly one of the best aspects of dorm life. period. whatever it is that Andrew Bird is doing with his violin, it is doing all kinds of crazy things to my heart and mind. like...i'm kind of in love right now. actually it's not even kind of. i'm definitely in love.

i'm glad im sober again. sorta. this last week has wreaked (wrought?) havoc on my system/heart/mind. so i'm feeling all pulled taut like i do after any good ol' fashioned binge. i can't believe i still do this to myself. waking up and feeling half dead. entire face aching. stomach in knots. blech;.

the hilarilous thing is the utter frustration that i feel when im in bed, leg jiggling nervously, wanting to introduce a bullet to my temple, while im desperately trying to find a song i can actually feel.

and nothing's coming up.

that's when i know it's bad.

when for days. i can't even listen to music.

let's try this sobriety thing again...wish me luck.

There is this one band that I feel like I grew up with. Going back and listening to old school Brand New is so trippy compared to their new shit. Honestly, listening to "Devil and God..." is something else entirely. The way that their soundd has matured is just...nice. For instance, go listen to...say...Failure by Design...and then go listen to Sowing Season/Jesus Christ. I really do enjoy Brand New even if they sound like SHIT live. Oh goodness.

But that's what's on my mind musically at the moment.

Growing up with a band and my taste shifting as their sound did.

good vs. bad (who's your money on?)

back in a dorm...insomnia kinda sucks when you're roomie's out cold.

bad: not being able to fall asleep w/ music playing
good: god invented headphones
bad: i get tangled in wires
good: i have wireless, noise cancelling headphones coming my way. i.e. i wont have to PRETEND to not hear people when my headphones are on...schweeeet. hello music world.
bad: i cant think of anything bad cause im thinking about music world.
good: i actually chilled w/ people on my hall.
bad: i still miss alex.
good: im not obssesively sitting here trying to convince myself not to write/call/text/e-mail/message/show up at his dormitory and crawl into bed with him...or at least not like THAT much
bad: everyone is in a sorority
good: thrifting tomorrow w/ a cool girl who isn't.
bad: i miss my best friend like WHOA.
good: i just made the most awesomest mix.
bad: global warming.
good: miniskirts and sunglasses.

peace out.

and from now on im gonna end with a lyric so tonight's is:

"i don't want to be seen as a pretty thing/cause it's the pretty things/that we're always breaking/and now she whispers into the mirror: i'm broken."

so this is how my new game works. it has an honor system so...if you can name that song you get w/o googling or anything you get a huge prize...my eternal love.

Ohkay...I'm a bit emo.

I forgot how much I loved my old music. On the drive back I had an old school day and I was a little surprised to see how much that shit still means to me :). Like I went full on back to my first obssesions:

Bright Eyes (Connor Oberst still blows my mind) (am I the only one who gets chills when listening to Bright Eyes...love love love. Lua is beautiful beyond words...)

Cursive (no explanation needed. love love love)

Coheed and Cambria (I really couldn't explain why I love In Keeping Secrets so much...I just DO.) (it's a little disconcerting)

on another note. i think im gonna go buy a bright eyes hoodie off of saddle-creek.com. I remember the first time I bought a shirt from them and i got the precious handwritten letter. i have every adorable little note. i love them, i love them, i love them. saddle-creek is just such an awesome label. i love how connected all of the bands are (connor even mentions tim kasher in his songs...adorableness!) and then how they play affordable venues for broke music addicts like me. and it's just. exhales. amazing!

that's enough dork for now :)

hope every one is well

go listen to Nina Simone's "Feeling Good"...if you're happy you'll be happier if not, you'll feel better.

What a Nice Surprise

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the iTunes' free single this week. I don't quite know why but I've already listened to it four times today and have it completely stuck in my head. Not something that oft happenes with the free single for me. So, in other words, if you don't have the free single trot on over to iTunes' and download the Cold War Kids "Hang Me Up to Dry" and get some Cursive while you're at it, anything off Domestica is life changing.

And a big hello to any insomniacal moggers like me out there in online world. Soon I'll be back at Wake so I will have to stop my 'til 6 in the morning musical shenanigans...I think...

What's your late night blend of music? Because I know that if I'm up past a certain hour my playlist definitely shifts.

Most of the time:

Pinback.

Currently:

John Butler Trio.

Translation: nothing that shouts at me.

Sometimes this thing happens, where I'm kinda in an off mood, so I scan around and look for music. When I came to Mog, my game evolved oodles. I would just go to the great and wonderful Mog-O-Sphere and look at people's posts on their favourite music--especially the best of 2006 lists. Lucky me! The best CDs I have acquired of late have been from these lists.

Right now I'm listening to Stars "Set Yourself on Fire" a CD I am passionately in love with. It is the absolute perfect blend of swift, clever beats and well-delivered, well-phrased lyrics that all come together for an altogether satisifying musical experience. It makes me think of when I was a child and I would lie down in the middle of those things at the playground that spin around. And I would close my eyes and when I opened them the world would be this brilliant swirl of colors and clouds and leaves and I could hear my own laughter and I felt so entirely young and carefree and I would feel giddy.

Many thanks to you wonderful Moggers!

I do really, really, really like this site. I think it may be my very favourite.

Keep the good music coming! I'm enjoying my enlightenment.

Love,

Jza

and if you're bored (and awake) or just avoiding work at some point you should go here:

http://www.gumob.com/

or even here:
http://www.patio-de-recreo.com

or maybe here:
http://www.jacksonpollock.org/

it's so odd...discovering the Internet. after years of being stuck in a studio for 8 hours a day, or if not stuck in a studio, stuck with something else entirely...a relationship to stifle me and slowly break me down, or an addiction to do the same thing...

I have to say that this downtime, being completely alone, directionless, with no crutches, has been difficult. This SIX WEEK (who thought that was a reasonable amount of time??) winter break has been something else entirely. The more I get to know myself, the more I am confused. Who the fuck am I?

I don't really know.

But I'm pretty sure this is the first step to figuring out.

Shrug.

I think I'll just keep listening to this CD.

prozac nation.

I just watched "Prozac Nation" for the first time. For someone who adores movies the way I do, it certainly does take me awhile to get around to some of the classics.

I guess I found the movie disturbingly easy to relate to, which I suppose is the point, right? The previous is a statement I make with great care. I feel like whenever anyone makes a comment about depression they have to state it very carefully. One has to realize that there are thousands of people who will either shake their head, wag their finger or who just don't get it at all. But then again--who does?

I wouldn't say I am depressed, I don't know why, but I just wouldn't. Then again I would have never said I had a drug problem, because once you say something you're expecting a response and on issues like those, the response is never what you want/need to hear.

On a different note, I enjoyed the music from the movie. The Joy Division poster immediately caught my eye. Love Will Tear Us Apart, eh? Tell me about it. And then o'course there's the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Bruce Springstein etc, etc, etc. that dot the movie. It seems like it would be a good soundtrack. But moreover the movie made me wonder about how things intertwine. What with drugs and music and alcohol and sex and writing and love and depression. It makes you wonder...

Made me think about how certain types of people listen to certain types of music. O'course there are those exceptions to the rule, but my musical taste is as angsty and musically irritable as I often am. I know I get tagged as emo quite a bit by a quick glance through my iTunes, but the funny thing is if you met me, randomly, you would never tag me for unstable/emo.

I wonder about that...

I wonder about music... is it music or how one listens to music? How is it that the songs speak so completely to some people? That for generations and generations some people have laid in their beds and fallen asleep with lyrics bringing tears to their eyes?

Do you know that feeling when you put on a song that means so very much to you for a friend to listen to and they don't get it. They really just don't get it... Hm. Whatever.

I don't really have anything to say and now I'm frustrated with myself.

"Do i abuse drugs and alcohol? Of course not, that shit abuses me."

iTunes you insensitive sonofabitch you're in timeout.

here's my single girl rant for the night.

yes...it is 10:08 PM...yes i am 18 years old. and yes I am online, instead of out. Pity me. ugh. When did I start to suck so badly?

single men per 100 single woman in...

no wonder every girl i know is settling for/clinging to a relationship with an unworthy sonofabitch... we're scared. or they're just single. rock on!

damn that whole xy chromosone thing. damn you men. on the up and up ( http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4225769 ) so yeah...it's only a matter of time...

that whole Feminism FYS couldnt have come at a better time. im pretty disappointed with the male gender as a whole. but then again my experience thus far can't be desrcibed as stellar. my fault.

so once again here are the stats:
single men per 100 single woman in...

Lynchburg, VA:66
Stafford, VA:103! whoo. go us.
Forsyth, NC (Winston-Salem):75

for Sarah:

Cocoa Beach, FL:86 (better than Lynch Vegas and Winston-Salem!)
Tallahasse, FL:80

For Gummie Bear:

Kennesaw, GA:91...not too shabby
Atlanta, GA:88

I think that's really funny. curiosa? curioso? check out--

http://www.epodunk.com/county_data2/mw10.html

happy huntin', ladies.

on the up and up im almost positive there's a 200 to 1 ratio of fucking creepy ass/clingy/weird/socially inept/crude/unattractive/i
gnorant/undateable/ downright yucky men to a good catch...i guess that's not on the up and up. im a little hostile but that could be because i had the worst date of my life. possibly.

you know what. fuck my god damn shuffle coming up with positively "rub salt in your wounds" type of music... in the last 15 minutes-- Drive South, Just What I Needed and Open Up. Fuck you, iTunes. I'm turning you O-F-F.

I think I'm going to start a list of my favourite love songs, thanks to this song popping up on my shuffle (Third Engine). I remember hearing a rumor that this song was written by the lead singer of Saves the Day to another man.

Love Songs:

(in no particular order)

1. Gorecki- Lamb
2. Body Parts - Jump Little Children
3. We're In This Together Now - NIN
4. Clavicle - Alkaline Trio
5. Wonderwall - Ryan Adams
6. My Love - Tristan Prettyman
7. Us - Regina Spektor
8. Third Engine - Saves the Day
9. Drive South - John Hiat
10. Empty - Janet Jackson
11. I Found a Reason - Cat Power
12. Sweet Euphoria - Chris Cornell
13. Heart-Shaped Box - Nirvana
14. Nothing Even Matters - Lauryn Hill
15. Out Loud - Dispatch
16. Take Me With You - Prince
17.Beautiful - G. Love and Tristan Prettyman
18. Tautou - Brand New
19. Excerpts From Various Notes - Cursive (Just the last verse)

I'm in a pretty cool place right now emotionally. One of my best friends just drove up to Stafford for lunch, yippie yaya for Doug.

I spent last night at my brother's new town house and he had done one of my favourite things ever: called me to let me know that he heard a song that made him think of me. Well, you have to have a little background:a. Juston is my hero. b. Juston NEVER listens to anything but hip-hop or R&B. But apparently his roomate had brought the Incubus DVD (Alive at Red Rocks) and he had watched it and loved it. When I went over to visit he got all flustered and excited, insisting I watch it with him. and I was shocked. I have always liked Incubus--like since middle school I guess. But as I grew up and my taste kind of shifted I stopped listening to them. But I was fascinated with the DVD, the talent level of the muscians was amazing. The energy was so raw. I have to see them live now. The 9:30 Club in DC of course sold out, but I hope I can find another show Juston and I can go to and rock out. Because watching that DVD and having hours of conversation about the music, the allusions in the songs, and just how talented they were was amazing.

I guess I always feel a little out of place with my music taste and the fact that my brother was so excited about something that isn't his type of music and actually stoked to see a show with me was just...awesome.

But yeah.
Now I wanna see Incubus live.

What are y'alls favourite love songs??

a taste of the Inc Alive at Red Rocks DVD.

gimmie some love

"My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods. Time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees - my love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath - a source of little visible delight, but necessary."

My girlfriends and I used to sit around in our dorm room, legs folded underneath ourselves and talk about everything and nothing. These are some of my fondest high school memories, night's spent up talking about dance, our insecurties, God, love, life, sex (and oftentimes the lack thereof), men, friends, family and the expectations we had for ourselves and the world and how often those expectations went unmet.

A lot of these moments were accompanied by music, one of the main ways I grew at boarding school, being exposed to every single type of person you can possibly imagine and the music they brought with them from all over. Having friends and enemies and everything else inbetween. I remember being introduced to Cursive for the first time, blasting it for weeks straight until every ballerina on my hall was ready to tie their pointe shoe ribbons around my neck. I remember sobbing my eyes out to Ani DiFranco's "Joyful Girl" after having my heart broken. Lying in bed with Lux as she stayed with me all night through some of the hardest moments in my life listening to A Perfect Circle's "The Noose", dancing around in heels and lingere with Emily to Mindless Self Indulgence and listening to infinite other songs that recall people and moments and situations.

Right now Just What I Needed just popped up on my shuffle, a perfect example of how every single person is a song for me. That goddamn Cars' song is Alex. We're head over heels in love with eachother in the way that you imagine your entire life you will be in love. We're driving back to his dorm room and he tells me this song reminds him of me, he's singing it, smiling at me in that specific way. He drums his hand on my jeans and trailing his fingers down "the ribbons in my hair" on cue with the song and he kisses me whenever he can catch a breath and a break in the music.

It's vivid.

But I digress.

What I meant to right about has nothing to do with my incessant ramblings on the tired topic of Alex (beat that dead horse, Jza, beat it :)

But.
Where was I?

Oh yes.

I watched Cold Mountain for the first time tonight, which is kind of amazing, since I am completely in love with Nicole Kidman. The whole movie was fine and all, but to understand the reason why I really rented it you'll have to reference the previous paragraph about me and my wacky dancer friends at school. Being forced to preoccupy ourselves in the wee hours of the morning we'd talk about everything. And one of my best friends and I started a list of movies with the best sex scenes-- Cold Mountain was the only one on the list I hadn't seen yet.

--4. Meet Joe Black--
--3. Cruel Intentions--
--2. Cold Mountain--
--1. Unfaithful--

So I saw the movie. And although the sex scene was nice, what I was most surprised by was the music. I adored it. And I've never been a huge fiddle, southern-y type of girl. But I felt it all. Right in the middle of my chest.

And I loved it.

I love music.

And people keep telling me, Welcome to Mog. Well...awesome. Because in the couple of days I've been on this site, my music collecition has already expanded considerably.

Sweet.

i dont wanna raise a beauty queen

After watching the greatness that is "Little Miss Sunshine" I hereby promise, that if ever the fates align and I have a daughter I will never put her in a beauty pageant. Ever. No matter how obnoxiously beautiful she is, I will not put my little girl into a world that too directly reflects everything I hate in the real world. I will raise my daughter in a complete fantasy. And lead her to believe that if she is herself everything will work out. I'll tell her lies about love. And she will grow up surrounded by the most beautiful music, books, poetry and art in the world. I think...oh goodness.

I don't think I should be allowed to reproduce. I'm pretty sure Spawn-o-Janelle would = one fucked up individual. As the wise sages that are the writers of Scrubs says: "why not just skip the middleman and have a therapist deliver your child"

I just really enjoyed that movie. I strongly recommend it to anyone who maybe reading this (Hi there, friend! How are you doing tonight??)

I think I'm gonna go read some Proust/Nietzche right about now...kids these days...so easily influenced...

It's gonna be another all-nighter...I can feel it. How bout I stop ignoring my best friend, pick myself up and out of this anti-social slump and talk to another human instead of staring at this screen all night...that can't be good for a girl.

I don't know if anyone has told you this today, but you're beautiful. That sounds really dumb, but you are. I have yet to meet a person who isn't.

I find it a little disturbing that most emotions I have these days are through music. I have a more passionate relationship with my collection than I do with anyone else. That can't be healthy at all. These days I have kinda been functioning on a pretty even, numbish level and then a song comes on. One of those "oh goodness gracious this song was made to completely jigsaw into my state of mind" and I actually feel something.

That bright, warm feeling of a great song. And you want to curl up inside of it and just be home.

Nuff insane rambling for now... to be continued?

inextricable

in·ex·tri·ca·ble Pronunciation (n-kstr-k-bl, nk-strk-bl)
adj.
1.
a. So intricate or entangled as to make escape impossible: an inextricable maze; an inextricable web of deceit.
b. Difficult or impossible to disentangle or untie: an inextricable tangle of threads.

Too involved or complicated to solve: an inextricable problem.

2. Unavoidable; inescapable: bound together by an inextricable fate.

Man, I love this. When randomly, you are minding your business enjoying what your shuffle is choosing for your listening pleasure and awesomely-awesome-awesomeness it happens. Before you can even register a logical thought or emotion your stomach turns. A song pops up you have been meaning to remove from your library, a song so inextricably attached with that someone--that wicked wicked someone who insists on inhabitating every single empty space in your brain--that you can't even begin to enjoy it. And like a deer in the headlights, you wait the song out, unable to push next. And of course, unable to delete it. Saving up another round of ammunition to be bombared with unaware another day.

A little extreme? Maybe. Dramatic? Absolutely. True? Without a Doubt.

God damn, Dispatch with all it's obnoxiousness.

I need a good heartbreak mix, so far the camp has assembled:

1. Grace - Kate Havenik
2. Let it Die - Feist
3. Excerpts from Various Notes - Cursive
4. Crazy Ophelia - Elisabeth Chidester
5. Madman - Charlotte Martin

etc.

any suggestions? anyone? anyone?

why, hello!

I'm not entirely sure how this works yet...at all...but I have to say that since it is 4:07 and I am no closer to sleep than I was 4 hours ago I might as well take this time and try something new. Anything to do with music = great by me. So, hey there world. If you love music I like you already.

Cheers.

Well let's see here. I am definitely in one of my Pinback moods. If you catch me up, high strung and typing away, I'm probably listening to Pinback. Something about the utter-mellow-loveliness that is Pinback balances out my insanity. I don't know why I find so much comfort in this band...it's one of few things I can fall asleep to and whenever anyone asks me for a band suggestion the second word that comes out of my mouth is Pinback (after Cursive, o'course). Yeah, call me emo...call me what you will--Pinback is love plain and simple. Nuff Said.
