WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Death Be Not Loud

Posted over 2 years ago
I dedicate this post to my dear MOG friend RocknRoll Pimp, who is enduring one of the most miserable human emotions: grief. The post concerns death and music.I've got a new fascination with the music magazine Paste, which I discovered while working out at the gym. Someone left a copy in the magazine while treadmilling pile. It was an old issue from last year, but I loved it anyway. One of the articles that caught my eye was "Lisa Germano: Death be Not Loud," in which I read the following passage about Germano:""The material on her newest record, In the Maybe World, displays a fascination with death and magic. But, in Germano's mind, they are one and the same."Can you see why i might be interested. Cool themes --- literary and all that.So here are a few links. See what you think. Here's my favorite quote from the Paste article:"Nobody has any idea what death is. How do we know it's not the most amazing, magical thing?"http://www.lisagermano.com/http://guillotinelove.com/

  1. fairportfan says "There's somethin' inside men like him. Somethin' to do with death." - Cheyenne (Jason Robards) about Harmonica (Charles Bronson), in *Once Upon a Time in the West*. Warren Zevon's first album after being told he had maybe six months to live? *My Ride's Here* Steve Goodman (who wrote Spirit of New Orleans) died quite young, of leukemia. As is often the case, chemotherapy made his hair fall out. Here's the cover for the last album he completed before he died:

  4. Mike the Knife says Lisa Germano is pretty wonderful, even if she's played violin in John Cougar Melonhead's band. I've been caught up in her previous albums, so I'm up for this one.
