In the Mood for French Food, Film, and Music

Posted almost 3 years ago

I've been reading the book about Julia Child that is the basis for the movie, Julia and Julie. It's got me thinking about French food and about my very weak French reading and speaking abilities. I got a French minor in college, for what it's worth. Anyway, my daughter and I had brunch at a little french cafe called Le Madeleine in the Atlanta area yesterday. Fabulous. I had a Mediterranean Pasta Salad with artichokes and olives and basil. MMMM. My daughter had breakfasty stuff including an unbelievable French toast with blueberries, strawberries, tangerines, and fresh cream. Heaven on a plate. We also watched a film called The Caller, which has some French-speaking characters, and now I am in the mood for French music. So here's some more:

"Photo montage of Oscar-nominated French actress. The song is "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg", music by Michel Legrand and lyrics by Jacques Demy (also director of the film). This version is sung by Jessye Norman, accompanied by Michel Legrand. (Blip from YouTube)

Always loved this tune and the whole concept behind Umbrellas..the food ain't too shabby either.  Speaking of the Julia film, I just saw my cuz and his wife in Seattle. She's an executive chef and did a dinner and demo at the Seattle premiere of the film..Beef Bourguignon. Yummers.

Here's another interesting video and tune, Cody B:

Thanks for your note. The book (Julia and Julie) is actually pretty funny; I got a discount on it because it actually fits in the category of "cookbook" at Borders. Ha ha. It does have some recipes in it. I may try some of them.

I guess Beef B.. recipe was the first in Julia Child's book so the first Julie made, and the reason why my cuz/chef chose it. Since no one there had read the book they didn't get it til the flick was over.
