August 25, 2008 → Lykke Li @ Hotel Cafe

Last night was Lykke Li's first-evah headlining show in Los Angeles, and it was held at the living room-sized Hollywood venue, Hotel Cafe. So naturally, it was a sold out gig and naturally, it's an L.A. crowd that didn't dance. =/ Lykke Li did all the moving and she was adorable. You must see her. She says things to the crowd like, "it's okay to kiss" or goes down to the front asking for a drink and when offered a bottle of water, instead chooses the alcohol. ;)

Her songs seemed to be a lot more lovely, if not more upbeat, to hear live than the recorded version. Then again, my recorded version was a, er, bootleg, so I got nothing to base that opinion on. If I had gotten my act together earlier yesterday, I would've not only gotten a copy of her album, Youth Novels, but I could have also gotten it autographed by the lady herself since she did an in-store session and signing at Amoeba right before this show. =P

She did not do an encore. I'd like to believe it's because she was too tired from the aforementioned in-store session than the aforementioned L.A.-meness of the crowd. Yes, I'll keep telling myself that.
